The espresso of permaculture - this weekend
Shift Bristol have put together a condensed flavoursome cup of permaculture as part of BIG Green Week.
Green is the colour of the sparkling corn in the morning. It's the colour of coffee beans once they're prised from the red berries. And supporting sustainability and the European Green Capital of 2015, it's also the colour of The BIG Shift: an intense espresso style permaculture day school happening this Saturday the 21st June.
In a bid to inspire Bristol, the greenest city in the UK, the day will comprise of workshops, practical activities and discussions on how to have a greener, more positive impact on the environment. Shift offer courses in permaculture and strive towards developing skills for a sustainable future. This pricing at just £5 for the whole day with a smorgasbord of nationally recognised speakers is intended to challenge the norm of £15 to £20 for an evening event and is suited to anyone wanting to do more than just change a light bulb!
For one day Shift have assembled the cream of the environmental crop; gathering socially responsible speakers from across the country to educate the community on what they can do to contribute to Bristol's Green Capital status and beyond. With talks ranging from permaculture, community schemes, food buying groups, up-cycling and community composting; the day looks set to be an environmental extravaganza.
Talks include Charles Dowding on no-dig gardening, showing communities how to reduce the spread of weeds and invasive plants; Dr Chris Johnstone on how to cultivate a stronger attitude to the planetary crisis with his Active Hope talk; Co-founder of Shift Bristol, Sarah Pugh on Permaculture and community action in the USA; Jo Forsyth on Green Building; Ed Revil on Biochar Heat Sources and Building Soil; a herb walk with Iain Stewart; plus many more informative talks, workshops and activities.
An inclusive family day, there will be live music, children's entertainment and activities on-site, as well as delicious locally grown and sourced food, provided by Shift's own pop up cafe. Their delicious lunch menu will cost an additional £5 for those attending, with tea, coffee and cake on sale throughout the day.
Those interested are advised to get to Frenchay's Feed Bristol site for around 9.30am in time for the first talks starting at 10am prompt. The event is expected to finish at 6pm; providing a whole day of family education and entertainment at an unbeatable price.
