With only 3 weeks left to get Christmas entirely in the bag, Gloucester Road traders have pooled together to create a fabulous competition

Following the frankly despicable chaos of Black Friday, hyped up by media this year; a collective of artisan independent traders opted for a much more pleasurable shopping experience. Residents of, and visitors to, Bristol this December will be able to take their time perusing the carefully selected gifts and wares of shops on the city's Gloucester Road.

In a city as synonymous with independence as Bristol; the message of shopping local couldn't be clearer with many vendors using the Bristol Pound. #ShopLocal just got even more local when a collective of artisan shopkeepers on the city's infamous stretch of urban culture from the Arches to Horfield have gathered together to create a Christmas competition with a heart. Gloucester Road traders are offering shoppers a free Christmas.

On the first day of Christmas, Gloucester Road community give to the public: the chance to win everything they could want for Christmas. From fabulous food and drinks to decorations and gifts, the community of Gloucester Road shops have pulled together an ultimate  Christmas hamper, sourced solely from traders on Bristol's longest independent shopping street.

Spanning from the North of the city to its centre, Gloucester Road holds within it everything a Christmas shopper could need, and the competition emphasises its diversity and quality. Celebrating over 225 independent traders participating in the giveaway, the hamper will include a total extravaganza of goods: from hairdressing vouchers to a knicker-making kit, and the more traditional Christmas fare, such as a glorious turkey and gammon, fresh veg and fruit, lights, handmade children’s toys.

Stopping off for warming festive drinks and bites to eat along the mile long road make shopping on Gloucester Road a pleasant experience for those who want to enjoy Christmas shopping, and this competition only reinforces the spirit of Christmas by focusing more on giving than receiving.

First Bus company have got behind the project and are sharing the good news with their customers via email. And they’ll be helping people to get to Gloucester Road for the two late night opening nights on Thursday 11th and 18th December, when there will be carol singing and hot chestnuts to couple Christmas cheer with shopping convenience.

Business Improvement District (BID) rep, and organiser Sam Mant said, "It's just so lovely to see everyone work together this way. We're really excited about being able to support a great local charity and let the city know the best quality, most imaginative solutions for Christmas are all here!"

Entries can be made by collecting an entry form in any participating shop and donating just £1 to the charity Julian House homeless centre, who see many people needing a roof over their heads during this difficult time of year. The grand draw will be made on December the 19th. Commitment to localism exemplifies the caring traditions of Gloucester Road and its community, who have chosen Julian House because of the fantastic work they do supporting homeless people.
