The LECOM John M. & Silvia Ferretti Medical Fitness and Wellness Center is leading the way to better health for women with its observance of National Women’s Health Week.

Erie, PA – The LECOM John M. & Silvia Ferretti Medical Fitness and Wellness Center is leading the way to better health for women with its observance of National Women’s Health Week. From Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13, the LECOM Wellness Center will host several activities designed to meet the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ initiative to encourage women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier and happier life.

“It’s Your Time” is the theme of this year’s National Women’s Health Week. The Department of Health and Human Services encourages all women to get at least two and-half hours of moderate physical activity, one hour and fifteen minutes of vigorous physical activity, or a combination of both each week; eat a nutritious diet: and visit health care professionals for regular checkups and preventive screenings.

With those goals in mind, the Wellness Center will host several events during the week. All are open to the public. Special membership opportunities will be available. Space is limited so participants need to pre-register by calling (814) 868-7800. The schedule of events is as follows:

Monday, May 9: “Less Stress: I Am Over All That” is a discussion hosted by Lynn McGrath, MSN, CRNP, Director of the Sensitive Patient Examination Commitment (SPEC) Program at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). Topics will include building self-esteem; losing useless baggage; making the choice to be happy. (Limit is 50 pre-registered participants).

Monday, May 9 & Tuesday, May 10 – 7a.m until 7p.m.: Bejio Bags & Silpada Jewelry will be on display in the Wellness Center lobby for sale. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the LECOM Student Scholarship Fund.

Wednesday, May 11 - 9 to 11 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.: Screenings for blood pressure and BMI/body composition; postural assessments; functional movement assessments; and chair massages.

Thursday, May 12 – 6 p.m.: “It’s Your Time to Care for Yourself,” a discussion hosted by Danielle Hansen, D.O., M.S., Vice President of Acute Care Services at Millcreek Community Hospital and General Internist for the LECOM Institute for Successful Aging. Topics will include preventive health measures which can be incorporated into daily life; the rationale for disease screening tests recommended by physicians; and recommendations for immunizations for women.  (Limit is 50 pre-registered participants)

Friday, May 13 – 5 p.m.: Cycle Matinee. Cycle with an instructor for 105 minutes while watching a movie!
