Age Change Triple Benefits Moisturizer

Loretta Ciraldo, MD, FAAD, Voluntary Professor of Dermatology and former Chief of the Appearance Center for Cosmetic Dermatology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has drawn on her clinical expertise to create a radically different approach to skin rejuvenation.  “After thirty years of examining patients’ skin, it is startling to see the disparity in aging changes between a person’s face and their backsides (exposed and non-exposed skin).
But even my patients who always use sunscreen and have never smoked still get significant damage on exposed skin, in the form of wrinkles, skin dullness and uneven pigment.” To provide the ultimate shield for environmental skin damage, Ciraldo has created the Age Change Group of products, starting with Age Change Triple Benefits Daily Moisturizer. (Eye and Body products will launch in January 2012).

How is Age Change a totally new and effective approach to changing the way your skin ages?

Ask dermatologists about what causes (extrinsic) skin aging and they will tell you sun exposure and cigarette smoke are the two main culprits.
So dermatologists advocate sunscreens and no smoking. But Ciraldo’s Age Change formula takes a unique approach.  Ciraldo has seen that the classically recognized pattern of skin aging, called “submental sparing”, (under-the-chin skin being spared from photo-aging changes) no longer exists.  So sun is no longer the sole skin aging culprit.  Her research led her to nicotine as the main unaddressed culprit for skin aging and for the past five years she has worked to develop the perfect nicotine shield for skin.  Recognizing that nicotine exposure is very pervasive, even for non-smokers, Age Change is thebrainchild of Ciraldo’s research and the first product on the market to protect the skin from the harmful effects and unsightly consequences of cigarette smoke.

The photomicrographs show two skin cells. The cell on the left has not been exposed to nicotine, and the cell on the right, where each clear dot represents cellular damage, was exposed to a nicotine-impregnated tee-shirt.  That’s right, this cell wasn’t exposed directly to nicotine, but just to a piece of clothing that had nicotine on it.  Since nicotine stays deposited on surfaces for up to ten days, Ciraldo argues that we are all getting exposed to much more nicotine than we realize.

But, as an experienced formulator and self-professed skincare fanatic, Dr. Ciraldo believes that besides health benefits to the cream, there need to be strong anti-wrinkle and skin brightening benefits to motivate us to use a product like Age Change.  Hence, the Triple Benefits from Age Change include not only reversal of free radical damage but also three very effective anti-wrinkle peptides and a skin brightener shown to be 50% more effective than kojic acid.

Technical Information

Age Change incorporates a synthetic analogue of gamma-tocopherol (a variation of Vitamin E....The other Vitamin E products on the market use the alpha-tocopherol form of Vitamin E, except Nutragenia’s sunscreens which incorporated gamma tocopherol about one year ago.).  The Age Change active has been used in chemotherapy (injections) to prevent and destroy nitrogen free radicals for over a decade. It is the first BROAD spectrum antioxidant addressing both oxygen and nitrogen free radicals. Topically, it has been shown to be up to 11 times more potent than Idebenone on a test called the T-Bar assay which measures the potency of antioxidants against oxygen free radicals) AND the synthetic gamma-E also shields us from Nitrogen free radicals. Nitrogen free radicals are formed from exposure to cigarette smoke, car exhaust fumes, acid rain, air pollution and crop overfertilization.

How are Nitrogen free radicals different from Oxygen Free Radicals?

Free radicals are destructive molecules that form in our skin and give rise to skin aging and skin cancer.  If the compound is a form of oxygen, it is called an oxygen free radical.  If it is produced from nitrogen, it is called a nitrogen free radical.  Until now, all the ingredients on the market have combated only oxygen free radicals, so we haven't talked much about combating nitrogen free radicals, which are also very destructive.  Age Change is offering a broad spectrum free radial coverage against BOTH oxygen and nitrogen free radicals.
