STOCKHOLM – March 24, 2022 — Paradox Interactive is happy to announce the beginning of the Management Weekend: the first Steam Sale dedicated to Management titles. Paradox Interactive revealed it acquired Academia: School Simulator from Squeaky Wheel Studio. The latest addition to the publisher's growing management portfolio is a cheerful, yet challenging, title that tasks players with building and managing a high school. Academia: School Simulator was created by Philippine game development studio Squeaky Wheel under the leadership of former CEO Ryan Sumo, who was also the artist behind Prison Architect's iconic art style.
"I'm excited about this new step for Academia,” says Ryan Sumo. “It took us nine months to launch it in Early Access, and since its release in 2017, we've been overwhelmed by the positive reviews and the support from the community. Academia: School Simulator will always hold a special place in the hearts of myself and my former coworkers at Squeaky Wheel. And thanks to Paradox, more people will get to discover our labor of love. I hope everybody will enjoy the game: can't wait to see some new students running down the hallways!”
Management Games By The Numbers
- 1.5 million users are playing Paradox’s management games every month.
- Cities: Skylines just celebrated its 7th anniversary, with more than 37 million hours played (that makes roughly 100 thousand years!).
- Surviving Mars welcomed more than 2 billion colonists - around 38% of Earth’s current population moved to Mars!
- More than 40 million inmates managed to escape in Prison Architect.
- Over 4 million colonies popped up in the wastelands of Surviving the Aftermath. The game has also received a free update that adds new ways to play it and brings some of the most requested features and improvements.
"While our Grand Strategy Games are the backbone of Paradox, our Management games have grown to represent a remarkable segment of the company's portfolio,” says Sandra Neudinger, VP of Business at Paradox Interactive. “We know that many of our players are looking for titles where they can express their creativity in a relaxed and optimistic way while still keeping that signature Paradox challenge. Our portfolio of Management games offers this experience to players in a variety of environments that is unmatched by any other games publisher. Paradox will continue to expand its Management catalog and become recognized as the leading publisher of the genre."
