Parenta, based in Maidstone on the Ashford Road, deliver a range of childcare qualifications, including a foundation learning course and hope to appeal to unemployed young people looking to gain a qualification and pathway into employment.
The 16 week course provides a unique opportunity for school-leavers to develop their existing academic skills, prepare themselves for employment and create a pathway to start a career.
Last year, Parenta helped place 10 young people as apprentices into Early Years Settings on completion of the course. Working in partnership with nurseries across Kent, learners receive help finding a placement in the Early Years workforce. This year, it is hoped as many as 50 young people in Kent will be offered the same opportunities.
Learners will participate in various activities away from the classroom each month to encourage active learning, and receive £30 per week to cover travel expenses.
As an alternative to college, learners work in smaller groups attending four lessons each week, participating in research tasks and key skill development activities.
The course offers a variety of skills and knowledge including areas such as safeguarding children, child development and personal and social development.
Hannah Reed completed the course last month, and is now looking forward to starting her placement at a nursery later this month.
“I’m really pleased I chose this course. My friends went to college but I wanted to try something different and as a result, I now have an apprenticeship in a nursery to look forward to next month.”
Foundation learning is a free programme aimed at 16-18 years olds who are not in education, training or employment. The course is tailor-made for individuals to gain skills and qualifications, and to build the confidence to progress towards entering employment or further education.
