Summer Comes Together in Park City

summer openings, expansions and special events
PARK CITY, UTAH (May 19, 2015) – Shifting from a robust winter season, Park City is gearing up to offer visitors endless opportunities to stay, dine and play this summer. From the grand opening of High West’s new distillery at Blue Sky Ranch, the opening of a new 18-hole golf course at Canyons Resort, to a full schedule of concerts and festivals, Park City is an ideal destination for a summer alpine getaway.
Resorts Expand and Launch Summer Operations
Park City Mountain Resort
Recently acquired by Vail Resorts, construction has started on an eight-passenger gondola connecting Park City Mountain Resort to Canyons Resort, which will create the largest resort in the United States with 7,300 acres of skiable terrain opening for the 2015-2016 ski season. Vail Resorts has also started work on additional projects, which comprise of more than $50 million in resort improvements.
During the expansion, Park City Mountain Resort will continue to offer a wide variety of on-mountain adventures throughout the summer. Located in the heart of Park City, Park City Mountain Resort is home to one of the world’s longest alpine slides, Utah's largest Alpine Coaster, ZipRider adventures and an abundant selection of hiking and mountain biking trails served by three chairlifts. Canyons Resort
Canyons Resort will tee-up summer with the opening of Canyons Golf. Set on 97 acres in the heart of the Canyons Resort, the 6,256-yard, par-70 course, designed by renowned course architects Gene Bates and Casey Bates, offers 18 holes of challenging and enjoyable golf characterized by memorable shots with dramatic views.
In addition to golf, summer activities at Canyons Resort include the free Summer Concert Series; 12 jump, flow, free ride and downhill trails at the lift-serviced bike park; Zip Tour Adventure; pedal boat rentals and trout fishing on the Alpine Lake. Deer Valley Resort
Offering lift-served mountain biking, hiking and scenic chairlift rides, Summer Adventure Camp for children and music-filled evenings at Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, Deer Valley opens for summer fun on June 19, 2015.
Renowned for its award-winning cuisine, Deer Valley serves up summer dining on the outdoor decks of Royal Street Café and Deer Valley Grocery Café, in addition to Deer Valley-inspired brick oven cuisine at its newest restaurant, The Brass Tag. Gourmet Picnic Baskets are also available to enjoy during evening concerts at the Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, which is the summer home for the Utah Symphony. Utah Olympic Park
Utah Olympic Park (UOP) has been busy readying the 2002 Olympic facility for the summer season. Construction of the $3 million Project Big Air is nearly complete and will include seven brand-new sport-specific training ramps for aerials, moguls, freeskiing, snowboarding and big air. There is no other facility like this in the world, placing Park City and the Utah Olympic Park at the forefront of skiing and snowboarding development. Utah Olympic Park opened for summer activities on May 16, featuring the signature summer Comet Bobsled ride, three adventure ropes course, ziplines, alpine slide and a drop tower. A variety of sport camps are also available for kids ages 7 and up.
The UOP’s Flying Ace All-Stars Freestyle Show starts on June 27, featuring its signature half-hour big air performance. From June 27 through Sept. 6, the freestyle shows will be held at 11:00 a.m. every Saturday and 1:00 p.m. every Sunday excluding July 4. Libations Launch and Expand in Park City
High West Distillery, Utah’s award-winning whiskey maker and the first legal distillery in Utah since 1870, will open its new distillery at Blue Sky Ranch to create the world’s only whiskey distillery and luxury guest ranch. The Distillery will officially open in July, allowing High West to offer educational tours of the whiskey making process and a cutting-edge culinary kitchen featuring High West’s “Best of Utah” high country cuisine and whiskey pairings.
Park City Brewery is the newest addition to Utah’s craft beer scene, launching with four beers: Hooker Blonde Ale; Last Pitch IPA; Breaking Trail Pale Ale; and Boogie Water Brown. Their beers are served on tap at select Park City area restaurants and also at the Park City Brewery tap room, which is open Thursday – Sunday from 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Park City has also recently welcomed its first winery. Cognition Winery produces two wines – a 2012 Bordeaux blend and a 2013 Sauvignon Blanc – from grapes crushed and shipped from Napa Valley. Both wines are available for tasting and purchase at the winery.
Festivals, Fireworks and Fun
A highlight of summer, the annual Park City Fourth of July Parade will be the centerpiece of a weekend of holiday celebrations. The long weekend kicks off on July 1, with the 80th Annual Oakley Rodeo and 4th of July Celebration. Canyons Resort begins the celebration on July 3, with family activities and a free concert by The Soulistics. Saturday’s festivities start with a pancake breakfast in City Park, followed by a 5k run. Afterward, over 70 floats and bands are expected to travel the parade route along Park City’s Historic Main Street and will culminate in City Park for an afternoon of live music, food and fun. The day will conclude with live music and fireworks at Park City Mountain Resort at dusk. A full schedule of events is available here.
Park City also hosts a variety of festivals and outdoor events throughout the summer. The dining al fresco season officially gets underway with Savor the Summit, Park City’s longest outdoor dinner party, on June 20, 2015. The Park City Food & Wine Classic returns for its 11th season on July 8 – 12, 2015, with more than 100 food artisans, wineries, breweries, distilleries, epicurean purveyors and locally made products featured. The 46th Annual Kimball Arts Festival, one of the top art festivals in the country, takes place July 31 – Aug. 2, 2015. Park City’s Historic Main Street will be lined with more than 200 selected artists, 30 live bands, three wine and beer gardens and the Kimball Kid's Corner.

From free outdoor concerts to Wednesday’s Farmer’s Market to the Park Silly Sunday Market and the locally guided Park City Food Tour, visitors are welcomed to experience Park City like a local. Park City is also proud of its historic roots. Homeowners open their doors to tour their mining-era homes on the annual Park City Historic Home Tour on June 13, 2015. Visitors can also explore the architecture and stories of Park City on the Park City Historic Walking Tour. Tours are offered Monday –Saturday afternoons throughout the summer and showcase the town’s unique history, from the days as a booming mine town to an emerging ski town.
