Spitalfields, London, UK, 7th July 2010 – Renowned for its plethora of restaurants, bars and food outlets, Old Spitalfields Market (OSM), near Liverpool Street Station, is hosting a week-long celebration of all things culinary on the 19th July 2010. To the delight of foodies throughout the capital, OSM is marking this occasion with the launch of its new Flavours food court, located in the heart of the city and close to Brick Lane. A special area of the market will be dedicated to showcasing the best in local, regional and international food and drink. The Flavours food court also includes a demonstration kitchen that will be put through its paces on Wednesday 21st and Friday 23rd of July by chefs from Old Spitalfields Market’s restaurants, including Le Bouchon Breton, Wagamama, The Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Café Caribbean, Androuet and many more. Visitors to these free events can expect to see the celebrated chefs cooking their signature dishes, which all forms part of OSM’s year-round event schedule, at this world famous centre of food and fashion in Central London. These demonstrations will take place at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm on both days and members of the public are welcome to come along, with excellent access from train routes into Liverpool Street, which is a mere five-minute walk away. In addition to the demonstrations, there will be free tasting samples available and many of OSM’s bars and restaurants will have special week-long offers for city workers and visitors. Yoann Truwant, from Le Bouchon Breton, said: “We will be offering visitors an insight into traditional French cuisine during our demonstrations. Firstly, we will be showing the public how to make three different types of Tartare, using seafood, fish and beef. I shall also be introducing elements of my oyster classes that will help introduce people to these fabulous shellfish. We’ll talk about different varieties, how to open them, preparation, cooking and what wines are best to accompany them.” Steve Mangleshot, group executive chef with Wagamama, who is taking part in the OSM Food Week demonstrations said: “The team and I are delighted to bring to life some classic Wagamama dishes at the Old Spitalfields Market celebration of food week. Classics such as the Yaki Soba and Cha Han will be showcased along with tasters which we guarantee will be crowd pleasers.” Malcolm Ball, chief executive of Wellington Market Company, the organisation responsible for the world-renowned OSM, said: “Old Spitalfields Market is well known for its fashion, antiques and crafts, but there is shortage of market stalls that sell good food and drink produce – particularly during the working week.” “We have some of Central London’s best restaurants here and I believe it’s only fitting that our customers can gain access to good quality ingredients for home cooking - after all, it’s what made Old Spitalfields Market famous! “The food and drink producers that will be featured at Flavours food court will offer a variety of fare; celebrating all manner of organisations, from the international through to the smaller artisan producer. “Provenance plays a big part in how people shop for their ingredients. No longer will merely telling a customer that a cheese is a particular type, or which country a dry-cured ham is from, they want to know the region, the producer, what farm, which chicken, what day of the week… and this is something our producers excel in. “Flavours will be concentrating on promoting affordable; best-in-class produce for everyone, not just a select few.” Old Spitalfields Market is a short walk from Liverpool Street Station and Aldgate East Tube – please visit www.oldspitalfieldsmarket.com for further information.
