Barrel of Laughs at New Burton Comedy Club

Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, UK – On the 25th June 2010, comedy lovers are in for a treat with the launch of a brand new, regular comedy club that’s being hosted at Burton’s newest bar and restaurant, The Brewery Tap.

Located at the site of The National Brewery Centre in Horninglow Street, the club takes place on the last Friday of every month. It has been named The Firkin Comedy Club and it promises to be a barrel of laughs (more brewing puns will invariably follow). The inaugural night on the 25th of June will see four comedians, plus a compere entertain with a variety of comedic styles. Kim Clarke, manager at The Brewery Tap, said: “I’ve established comedy clubs in the past and they have been a resounding success. The organisation that is booking the acts is top-class and they’ll be supplying some fantastically entertaining comedians.” “We’ve decided to seat our audience at tables in cabaret-style, so that they can enjoy the comedy and have the option of eating a meal during the performances. “We’re all excited and looking forward to putting The Brewery Tap firmly on the comedy circuit.” The compere for the evening will be Christian Ancliff, a comedian whose quick banter and surreal material based on observation regularly has audiences rolling in the aisles. He’s appeared on the infamous Comedy Store King Gong show four times, and has worked alongside some of the world’s greatest acts. The opening act is actor, writer and comedian, Neil Cole, a well-known face on TV and whose stand-up comedy work sees him appearing at all the major comedy clubs around the country. He also recently supported Russell Brand on his UK tour. Middle acts will be performed by two renowned stand-up comedians; Rob Coleman, who’s been described as a ‘pure gag merchant’ and Tony Tinman, of whom it’s been said that if he were any more bitter he’d be a lemon. Rob has a mountain of one liners and puns that range from daft to the dark. He brings audiences his numerous life experiences including time spent as a politician, ocean rower and tour manager for an Abba tribute band. Tony Tinman draws upon aspects of modern life that annoy him and embittered by the futility of life he meanders from day to day growing ever wearier with the heavy burden of under achievement. With a diploma in acrimonious cynicism no topic is safe from his condemnation. Closing the evening’s mirth will be Anthony King, an accomplished stand-up comedian. The Guardian’s William Cook said “The gags get better and better". It has been said that he’s an outwardly normal-looking bloke who turned to comedy after he was disowned by the Catholic Church for confessing in too much detail. With a twisted sense of humour, Anthony has gone on to perform at all the major comedy clubs across the UK and beyond, including performances in the Netherlands, Dubai, Majorca, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Anthony's devilishly droll deadpan humour, masterful timing and delivery of a stream of one-liners combine to make him one of the most polished performers on the circuit. His act is a combination of his own true-life experiences mixed in with a whole bunch of lies. Tickets for the event cost £10 and can be purchased on the door, or in advance from the Brewery Tap bar and restaurant or the National Brewery Centre. Doors open at 8pm and there’s plenty of free, onsite parking available. Doors close at 11pm. Further details can be found at the website www.nationalbrewerycentre.co.uk ENDS
