Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, UK – The National Brewery Centre, Burton upon Trent, is on the lookout for a talented performer/actor to play a number of historic roles from the town’s esteemed brewing history. Since it opened back in May 2010, the Centre has had a resident team of actors and performers dressed in full period costume adding an air of authenticity to the visitor experience - staying in character whilst interacting with the visiting public. The role, which is fully paid, could be full or part time and is the perfect job for an aspiring actor. The successful candidate could quickly find themselves travelling back in time to become a Victorian brewery worker, such as a Cooper, Train Driver, Maltster or even Mr Bass himself. “It’s very much an interactive role”, explained Kim Clarke, general manager at the Horninglow Street attraction. “One minute they could be serving real ales to our visitors, the next they may be giving a talk to a group of visiting school children on what life would have been like back in the late nineteenth century.” Originally opened as The Bass Museum back in 1977, The National Brewery Centre is one of the Europe’s leading brewing museums and it takes visitors through the evolution of the industry from ancient times through to the modern day. Kim continued: “We have hundreds of fabulous exhibits and artefacts at The National Brewery Centre, but the one thing that the visitors always comment on is how good the performers are.” “Our Edwardian Bar is authentic, but when you add a character from that era to serve ales to visitors or play pub games with them, it adds so much more to the visitor experience. “We are looking for a male performer as, unfortunately, Liam, our historical maltster is heading off to college later this month and he will be sorely missed. “We just want someone who is passionate about entertaining the public and keeping the proud brewing heritage of Burton alive!” No previous experience is required although it would be beneficial. To apply for the role, budding performers need to send an application by email to talent@nationalbrewerycentre.co.uk or via post for the attention of Gemma East.
