Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, UK – With October’s Firkin Comedy Club sold out and November’s set to follow, the team at The National Brewery Centre’s Brewery Tap bar and restaurant in Burton are laying-on a Firkin Christmas Comedy Special on the 17th December 2010. There are still a few tickets left for November’s Firkin Comedy Club (26th November), which will be compered by Jim Campbell, a varied and satirical performer, his quick-fire delivery has led to him being described as “a rip-roaring raconteur with some very strange ideas”. The opening act will be Matt Rudge, an energetic and charming act, with surreal but often cutting material told with a friendly cheeky smile. Next up in the open slot will be David Roth and Lewis Bryan both being comedians that will leave audiences rolling in the aisles. Closing the evening will be Eric Lampaert, winner of the Latitude Comedy Best New Act of the Year Competition 2010, he’s been described as “Delightfully Weird ★★★★” by Time Out and “Quirky, with an eye for the absurd and a couple of near-Izzardian flourishes” by The Stage. The Firkin Christmas Comedy Special will see the event move into the Centre’s new Hogshead Pavilion – meaning that the event will be able to accommodate many more comedy lovers. Kim Clarke, general manager, said: “We’ve really put Burton on the comedy map and our club is now established as part of the national comedy circuit. Nearly all of the events have sold out and we wanted to give everyone the chance to come along and experience these hilarious performers in the luxurious setting of the new Hogshead Pavilion.” “Before the show starts, there will be a cabaret-style menu, including an optional Christmas curry special which will be served between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.” Compering the event will be Mark Restuccia, a performer that’s been described as “Absolutely Brilliant” by Sarah Farrell, Head of Comedy at Paramount and “His act was like a Royal toilet - always polished but often filthy” by Channel4.com. The opening act will be James Redmond, a dry, slick and subtle stand up who delivers unexpected twists and turns during his set as he deconstructs his art. Open-slot acts will be Will Morris and Alex Voakes – both being renowned for their comedy styles and hotly tipped for a rapid rise to stardom. Closing the evening’s entertainment will be Tony Burgess, an award-winning stand-up comic and writer. Described as “…Always clever often hilarious…” by The Scotsman and “A Demon set and staggering stage presence.” By The Big Issue, Tony has also written for wide variety of comedians including Lily Savage, Brian Conley, Steve Coogan (Paul and Pauline Calf’s Cheese and Ham Sandwich) and Johnny Vegas (the Sony award winning radio comedy Nightclass.) Tickets for the event, which are purchased in advance, cost £10 (£20 including curry) and are available from the Brewery Tap bar and restaurant or the National Brewery Centre. The organisers are recommending that customers book early to avoid disappointment, as tickets are limited. Further details can be found at the website http://www.nationalbrewerycentre.co.uk ENDS
