Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, UK – On Friday 30th July 2010, comedy lovers can celebrate, following the welcome return of the new, regular, ‘Firkin Comedy Club’ that’s being hosted at Burton’s newest bar and restaurant, The Brewery Tap. Located at the site of The National Brewery Centre in Horninglow Street, the club takes place on the last Friday of every month. The compere for the evening will be Stewart McCure, an Australian comedian whose has performed stand-up across London and the South of England at all the usual venues, at the 2006 and 2008 Edinburgh Fringe, the famous Manchester Frog & Bucket, the Bury St Edmunds Fringe Festival, the Leicester Comedy Festival, the Comedy Clinic and ALTdot COMedy Lounge in Toronto, Comedy Crisis in New Jersey, Superego Comedy in New York and the Roxbury and the Comedy Store in Sydney. The opening act is Ben Davids, a Staffordshire comedian that hails from deepest, darkest Tamworth. He has established himself as one of the brightest new acts on the circuit in recent years. His act is a barrage of non-stop gags and one-liners that range from the silly to the very silly indeed and that will provide something a bit different for any comedy night. TV comedian Russell Howard described Ben as ‘Brilliant.’ Middle act will be performed by Dan Wright, an actor and comedian who has appeared in a numerous television shows for the mainstream terrestrial and digital channels. As well as his double-act work Dan is also an actor and presenter in his own right, with a number of TV credits to his name. Closing the evening’s entertainment will be Ronnie Golden. Ronnie has had a long and varied career – in the early days, opening shows for Tom Jones, Scott Walker and Engelbert Humperdinck as a teenaged guitarist. Following success with cult band the Fabulous Poodles, Ronnie embarked on stand-up at London’s Boulevard Theatre alongside Comic Strip regulars Rik Mayall, Ben Elton, a nascent French and Saunders and Alexei Sayle and performing a legendary ‘Buddy Holly’ in the first series of BBC 2’s “The Young Ones.” He remains the only original member from the Comic Strip team to still be actively working on today’s comedy circuit. In recent years he’s teamed up with comedy legends such as Arthur Smith and Barry Cryer for sell-out shows. After a period of song-writing and general musical pursuits he’s back to performing his very individual style of stand-up in both this country and in Ireland, Holland and the USA. Tickets for the event, which are purchased in advance, cost £10 and are available from the Brewery Tap bar and restaurant or the National Brewery Centre. With seating at tables in cabaret-style, the audience can enjoy the comedy and have the option of eating a meal during the performances. The organisers are recommending that customers book early to avoid disappointment, as tickets are limited. Doors open at 8pm and there’s plenty of free, onsite parking available. Doors close at 11pm.
