Spitalfields, London, UK – Wednesday 12th May 2010 will see the return of Swishing to London’s historic Old Spitalfields Market (OSM). The market, which is well known for its fashion designers and retailers, is hosting a free Swishing event during its inaugural Fashion Week which runs from the 10th to the 14th May. Andrew Sparrow, events manager at OSM, said: “The first Swishing event that we held here last year proved to be really popular with shoppers, so we’re delighted to be hosting it again this year.” “For the uninitiated, Swishing is an event where ladies can drop off their unwanted garments, shoes and accessories in the morning – then return later in the day to choose someone else’s. “It’s essentially clothes shopping, but with a twist. It removes the slightest traces of guilt that expensive shopping trips can have and increases the fun – that’s of course not forgetting the fact that it’s absolutely free! “In Britain, every year, we throw away more than 2million tonnes of clothes and Swishing will of course help to reduce this figure. I guess you could say that it’s recycling at its most glamorous.” The event starts at 7.30am when ‘Swishers’ can come along and drop off their unwanted garments, shoes and accessories in return for a ticket. This drop-off period finishes at 9am. After the clothes have been sorted there’s a browsing period between 1pm and 2pm where the ‘Swishers’ can browse through what will be available later in the day. At 6pm the fun commences and the tickets can be traded for the chosen items – up to the event’s close at 6.30pm. The Wednesday swishing event is just one of five days of fashion events taking place in the market. Each day there are fashion shows taking place on a new 30ft-long catwalk that is being constructed in the market. Old Spitalfields Market is a short walk from Liverpool Street Station and Aldgate East Tube – please visit www.oldspitalfieldsmarket.com for further information.
