Spitalfields, London, UK – Old Spitalfields Market (OSM), one of London’s most historic indoor venues, has firmly established itself on the event industry’s radar with a season of high-profile events taking place within its Victorian market hall. Sited near to Liverpool Street Station and in the heart of the City, Old Spitalfields Market has recently played host to the Japanese Matsuri Cultural Festival, Thomson Reuters EIKON Launch, The London Restaurant Festival’s Award Ceremony and Origin: The London Craft Fair - an event that, for the last few years, has been held at Somerset House. ORIGIN took place during September 2010 and Jimmy McDonald from Tent London, the event’s organiser, commented: “From the outset, Wellington Markets and Old Spitalfields Market were a pleasure to work with – moving a high profile public event such as Origin is no small undertaking, but the venue and its team made our decision to move this event from Somerset House to a more diverse and dynamic environment; Old Spitalfields Market that bit easier. We are delighted with them outcome…” Jack Morton was next to take advantage of the easily-adapted event space launching ‘Eikon’, a new financial desktop information product on behalf of its client Thomson Reuters. The company utilised the full market hall space to create a bespoke venue build for their client’s ‘Go Live’ customer event - something that will be replicated in other cities throughout the world. Also on display was the specially-designed Polar Arctic vehicle, that will take part in Thomson Reuter’s record-breaking expedition to the South Pole. During October 2010, The London Restaurant Festival made OSM its home, including a six-day, specialist food market that culminated in the glitz and glamour of the London Restaurant Festival Awards. This event will saw around 500 people gather to watch London’s top chefs and restaurants receive the prestigious awards. Andrew Sparrow, commercial operations manager, said: “Since being renovated Old Spitalfields Market now has a unique space which brings together some of the finest Victorian architecture and contemporary glass and steel – something that really fits together well, particularly with the venues start of the art lighting system.” “We have managed to attract some of London’s top designers, fashion retailers and restaurants, all of whom chosen Old Spitalfields Market. That’s not forgetting the one thing that has made our site famous – the stall markets and the eclectic mix of traders draw in impressive crowds from all over the south east of England. “There’s a great feel to the site and I guess you could describe it as where the glamour of the City meets the old East End and this gives us a really nice, vibrant mix of style and sophistication without losing any of the spirit of the East End. “We have, over the last few years, seen an increase the number of companies seeking to hold their event here. Coupled with the change of management that took place earlier this year, when Wellington Market Company Plc took over, we have seen a step-change in the way that the site is promoted and this has provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the venue event further. “This has resulted in many more event planners recognising the potential and all of the benefits that the venue has to offer. I’m pleased to say that 2011 looks set to be even busier.” Old Spitalfields Market is a short walk from Liverpool Street Station and Aldgate East Tube – please visit http://www.oldspitalfieldsmarket.com for further information.
