St. Austell, Cornwall, UK – 24th November 2010 – Following the devastating floods that hit Cornwall last week, St. Austell’s popular indoor market hall, Cornish Market World, will reopen to the public this weekend (Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th November) – a mere ten days on. The market’s owner and all of the 86 independent traders have worked around the clock to clear up after the flood water washed through the 80,000 square-foot building. Tony Thomas, manager with Town and Country Markets Ltd., the company that operates the site, said: “As you can imagine, there was a scene of utter devastation when a torrent of murky flood water engulfed the market. The traders have lost a large proportion of their stock and I really have to praise them for their drive and determination in getting the market open for business again so soon.” “They have worked so hard and it has been truly inspiring to see how everyone has rallied round, I really have to take my hat off to them all. “We are all looking forward to welcoming our loyal customers back this weekend so that their Christmas shopping can resume. We really value their support and without them, we wouldn’t have a market.” The site, located at Par’s Stadium Retail Park, is also home to The Kids Academy – an Ofsted-approved nursery and childcare facility – a business that has also managed to reopen, using rooms upstairs that were unaffected by the flooding. Unfortunately, Kidzworld - the adjacent children’s soft-play attraction will take a little longer and it is not expected to open before the New Year.
