Lamb Street Market launched at Spitalfields
Spitalfields, London, UK – To mark the much-anticipated arrival of Origin: The London Craft Fair, that is being hosted at Old Spitalfields Market later this month, the market’s operators have announced that there will be a new, street market running for three consecutive weeks in Lamb Street. This special market is being jointly hosted by Wellington Market Company, Hammerson and Ballymore, the companies responsible for the two neighbouring stall markets. Just off Commercial Road and a short walk from Liverpool Street Station, the Lamb Street market will take place on Sunday 12th, 19th and 26th September and will feature a vast collection of market stalls – offering an eclectic mix of goods that will appeal to a wide-range of tastes. For the first two weeks (12th and 19th September) the Lamb Street market will be in addition to the normal Sunday markets that are held across the Spitalfields estate. On the final week, Sunday 26th September, the Lamb Street market will be run alongside Origin: The London Craft Fair, which is occupying the main indoor market hall within Old Spitalfields Market. Throughout all of these dates, the Spitalfields Traders Market in Crispin Place will be open as usual. For lovers of antiques and collectables, the ever-popular Thursday Antiques market will be hosted in the Lamb Street location on the 23rd, 30th September and 7th October. A general market will operate at the Lamb Street site on Friday 24th September, Friday 1st October and Wednesday 6th October. Andrew Sparrow, commercial operations manager at Old Spitalfields Market said: “We are really pleased to be able to offer our Sunday shoppers the chance to visit many of their favourite market stalls in this new, location within Spitalfields.” “For the first two weeks, we’ll have many more stalls available than a normal Sunday and to mark the occasion, we’ll be running a special offer in the local press and on our website www.oldspitalfieldsmarket.com where shoppers can have the chance to win vouchers worth up to £100 that can be redeemed at Old Spitalfields Market. “It’s a real coup for us to be hosting Origin: The London Craft Fair and I know that visitors to Spitalfields will appreciate the additional attraction of being able to purchase a ticket and experience handmade items from around 220 makers of contemporary crafts.” Ray Dervin, manager of Spitalfields Market, added: “We are delighted to be working with our neighbours at Old Spitalfields Market in launching this new temporary venue.” “This will offer shoppers even more choice than they normally enjoy, which is saying something! They’ll also get the added attraction of exploring in Lamb Street a relatively undiscovered part of Spitalfields.” Origin: The London Craft Fair takes place at Old Spitalfields Market between the 23rd and 29th of September 2010. Now in its fifth year, Origin has established itself as the UK’s principal selling event for individual makers.
