Spitalfields, London, UK – Old Spitalfields Market has announced its next three months of exciting events at the historic shopping destination. From October and November - through to December’s Christmas shopping season – which includes one lucky shopper getting the chance to win a massive £120,000 - the events taking place are:
October 2011
12th October - 12pm to 2pm | Spitalfield’s Got Soul: in aid of Black History Month
Join us for a soulful celebration of in aid of Black History Month. This free event includes unique art and craft stalls, a live musical tribute to the great black entertainers of the past and present, poetry, face painting, stilt walkers, Henna painting and beauty treatments.
28th and 30th October – 11am to 5pm | Jewel East
Old Spitalfields Market has joined forces with London Jewellery Week to present an innovative showcase of exciting new jewellery designers. Free to members of the public, the event will feature costume, vintage and handmade designer jewellery, workshops and demonstrations.
November 2011
9th November – 5pm| Christian Aid Big Sing and Christmas Light Switch-on
Christian Aid launches its Big Christmas Sing with a free concert hosted by Suggs from Madness. Guests will perform alongside local school choirs and will sing their favourite Christmas hits. 15th and 16th November| Brewers’ Market
Celebrating all things related to beer and brewing, Old Spitalfields is set to host its first Annual Brewers’ Market. There will be a wide array of breweries and retailers from all over the South East offering some of the world’s finest beers – available to sample and purchase to take home.
25th November – 11am | Aid for Japan
This Japanese cultural festival, presented by Akemi Solloway, will raise money for Aid for Japan a charity that is supporting orphaned children following the tsunami. A range of cultural activities will be demonstrated including a Kimono Fashion Show. www.aidforjapan.org.uk
Twelve Days of Christmas at Old Spitalfields Market
Starting on Monday 28th of November, the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ will see Old Spitalfields Market give away £10,000 through special promotions, game show fun and daily cash prizes. All of this will be on offer on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the lead up to Christmas.
The twelfth day (21stDecember 2011) will see one lucky person have the opportunity to win the ultimate Christmas present of £120,000. Lit by the merry glow of the Christmas lights across all of the twelve days, there will be carol singers, school performances and charity-based activities. Free mulled wine and minced pies will be available on the late-night shopping Wednesdays – which keeps the market open until 8pm.
Shoppers can spread some Christmas magic to young families across east London by donating toys to the ELBA Christmas Toy Appeal. A drop-off point will be positioned within the market throughout this festive season. Visit www.elba-1.org.uk for further information.
