Spitalfields, London, UK – Saturday 5th February 2011 will see the return of ‘Swishing’ - the fun way to swap unwanted clothes and accessories – to an historic London indoor market. Taking place at Old Spitalfields Market (OSM), a venue that’s renowned for its array of fashion designers and retailers, members of the public can drop off their unwanted garments, shoes and accessories in the morning – then return later in the day to choose someone else’s. Ellie Barnatt, events manager at OSM, said: “Our previous swishing events have proven to be really popular with shoppers, so we’re absolutely delighted to be hosting it again.” “It’s essentially clothes shopping, but with a twist. It removes the slightest traces of guilt that expensive shopping trips can have and increases the fun! “In Britain, every year, we throw away more than 2 million tonnes of clothes and swishing will of course help to reduce this figure. I guess you could say that it’s recycling at its most glamorous.” The event starts at 11am when ‘Swishers’ can come along and drop off their unwanted garments, shoes and accessories in return for tickets (up to a maximum of five items). This drop-off period finishes at Midday, leaving participants time to take advantage of exclusive offers at many of the restaurants located within the market hall, including Crepe Affaire and The Real Greek. After the clothes have been sorted there’s a browsing period between 2pm and 2.30pm where the ‘Swishers’ get a sneak preview of the items available later in the day. At 2.30pm the fun commences and the tickets can be traded for the chosen items right up until the event closes at 4pm. Tickets cost £8.00 per person and they are available from Ellie Barnatt at Old Spitalfields Market on 0207 375 2963 or online at www.oldspitalfieldsmarket.com ENDS
