Moira, nr. Swadlincote – In the run-up to the festive period, Santa and his Elves will be spreading some Christmas magic in the heart of the National Forest this year, with the welcome return of the Winter Wonderland to Conkers Waterside Centre, near Swadlincote. From Saturday, 27th November, through to Thursday, 23rd December, Santa’s chief Elf will lead families on a magical journey along an avenue of lights and entertainers into the specially-lit, snow-covered Enchanted Forest - through to Santa’s woodland grotto. Once there, visitors will be able to meet Santa and his reindeer in an authentic antique Norwegian log chalet, try some hot minced pies and roasted chestnuts, sing along with the carol singers, warm themselves with some mulled wine and marvel at the fire juggling. The minced pies and mulled wine is included with the adult price of admission and children will get a present from Santa himself, along with a Conkers Christmas cookie. After visiting the Enchanted Forest, guests will be encouraged to ride the Christmas Conkerchoo train through the fairytale Tunnel of Discovery. There are 12 dates to choose from: Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th November, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th December, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th December or every day from Saturday 18th through to Thursday 23rd December. Pre-booking is essential and guests can select their visit time from 11am through to 6.30pm - every half an hour. Chris Sturdy, general manager, explained: “Although the elf-led visits to the grotto in the Enchanted Forest are at specific times, once people have completed it, they can stay as long as they want, right up to when we close at 7.30pm.” “Santa’s little helpers have gone to great lengths to ensure that Winter Wonderland is even more magical than last year. There will be snow, in the trees – albeit artificial – that is, unless we get the real thing! “This event is very popular with people of all ages, so we do recommend booking early. It really gets everyone into Christmas spirit and undoubtedly will become a treasured memory for the whole family.” Tickets cost £7.95 for adults (including a mulled wine and a mince pie) and £7.95 for children (including a personal present from Santa Clause and a Christmas cookie). Conkers Members discounts do apply and the prices are £4.95 for adults and £5.95 for children. To book tickets for the Winter Wonderland, visit Conkers Reception, or telephone 01283 216633 (between 10am and 4pm). Guests are advised that to arrive 15 minutes before their allotted time and that the reindeer will be on site between 12.30 and 6.30pm only. The Winter Wonderland is one of many Christmas events that are taking place at Conkers. There will be Pantomime performances of Cinderella on the 18th December, Carols by Candlelight on the 23rd December and a host of dinner-dances.
