Raku: striking ‘retro contemporary’ tableware from Parsley in Time
New collection combines artisan looks with tough durability
New from Parsley in Time, the out of the ordinary tableware company, is Raku – a collection of ten plates and bowls that combine a retro, artisan motif with tough durability. Manufactured by Churchill, Raku’s attractive looks riff on the revival of studio pottery, giving a contemporary take on traditional, archive designs.
The new tableware collection comes in an attractive topaz blue. It’s named after a traditional production technique known as Raku firing that creates an unusual crazed pattern. In this modern version, the print is positioned directly under the glaze and, during firing, undergoes random effects. As a result, each plate and bowl is individual, mimicking an artisan finish.
Despite its eye-catching looks, Raku is manufactured to endure the busiest hospitality environments and is sturdy, hard-wearing and dishwash safe.
Parsley in Time will be offering Raku in four round plate sizes, with diameters ranging from 16.5cm to 28.8cm, two wide-rimmed bowls, 24cm and 28cm, and two coupe bowls, 18.2cm and 24.8cm. There are also two oblong chef’s plates, measuring 29.8 x 15.3cm and 35.5 x 18.9cm.
“Raku creates a striking, unusual tabletop and the wonderful colouring sets off food beautifully,” says Rob Blunderfield of Parsley in Time. “It’s ideal for any restaurateur looking for a contemporary tableware able to deliver a real point of difference.”
All the plates and bowls in the Raku collection are available for same day or next day delivery from Parsley in Time’s London warehouse. Prices start from £4.82 per unit, for the 16.5cm (6.5”) Raku coupe plate.
