A Memorandum of Understanding on the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) Pilot programme between the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) and the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) was signed by the EAPO President in Moscow on 27 March and by the PRH Director General in Helsinki on 24 April.

Despite the exceptional circumstances, co-operation between patent offices will continue and will be strengthened. Pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding, the PPH Pilot programme will commence for an initial period of three years in the second half of 2020. The exact date will be determined later.

The idea of the PPH is to fast track the processing of patent applications and to reduce overlapping examination work done by different patent offices. PPH means that an applicant who has filed a first application with a first office and has received a positive opinion that the claims are allowable may request fast-track processing when filing a corresponding application with a second office. The programme between the EAPO and the PRH will cover both national and PCT applications.

By filing one single application for a patent at the EAPO, you can then easily obtain a patent in all the countries that have joined the Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC).
