Non-Profit uses Social Media to Reach New and Expectant Parents

CHICAGO (April 13, 2012) – Pathways.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of early detection and intervention therapy for children with sensory, communication, and motor delays, announced the launch of its new Facebook campaign. The organization will begin running bi-monthly Tummy Time contests on Facebook to engage new and expectant parents and grandparents and share the importance of detecting early motor delays.

There are as many as 400,000 children each year at-risk for early motor delays, according to members of the American Academy of Pediatrics – Council on Children with Disabilities. Tummy Time can prevent early motor delays and improve head control by strengthening core, neck, back, and shoulder muscles needed for the next stage of an infant’s development. The Pathways.org Facebook campaign will continue to increase awareness of the importance of incorporating Tummy Time into an infant’s routine early in life to help meet developmental milestones.

“We’ve seen remarkable success from our contests already and we want to make sure we stay integrated with our social media community,” explained Sarah Kerndt, Director of Operations for Pathways.org. “By interacting with our Facebook audience, we are able to share knowledge about Tummy Time and early developmental delays. We’re very excited to expand our contest going forward.”

Parents interested in submitting a photo to the Tummy Time contest should “like” Pathways.org on Facebook for contest information. The top three entries with the most votes during the contest period will each receive a Pathways.org Prize Pack. Children must be 13 months of age or younger at the time the photo was taken.

Tummy Time activities and numerous educational resources, links, checklists, and tools for both parents and health professionals can be found on the Pathways.org website, www.pathways.org.
