TUALATIN, OR. and TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (May 28, 2014) – As schools across the country align math education to new Common Core State Standards requirements, both professional development and curricula will be crucial to teacher success. Marshall Cavendish Education, together with Singapore Math Inc.®, announced the release of a new edition of the highly successful Primary Mathematics program specifically aligned with the national Common Core. Also available for the 2014-2015 school year is a new digital platform, Primary Digital.

Primary Mathematics Common Core Edition expands upon an exceptional series and retains the rigor that is a trademark of Singapore Math® curriculum,” says Cassy Turner, who trains thousands of educators annually and hosts SingaporeMathSource.com, a website devoted to the curriculum.

Singapore Math® programs were already largely aligned with what states are now requiring, which is why creators of the Common Core looked to the Singapore Ministry of Education’s Mathematics Framework for guidance.

Primary Mathematics Common Core Edition enhancements include wrap-around Teacher’s Guides with Common Core learning objectives alongside lessons. Thorough explanations offer ideas for differentiating the curriculum to meet the learning needs of all students. Educators will also be able to leverage digital resources through Primary Digital, an online program that can be used to supplement Primary Mathematics Common Core Edition.

Primary Mathematics Common Core Edition is a robust curriculum with new components essential to meeting Common Core, including better review materials and more explanatory information in guides for educators,” said Vivian Cheng, Area Director at Marshall Cavendish Education (US). “Importantly, it retains the rigor that is a trademark of the Singapore curriculum.”

Since the mid-1990s, Singapore students have consistently ranked among the world’s leaders in mathematics achievement. The Singapore Math® program has a proven track record for providing well-researched, coherent, high-quality content that has led to its successful implementation in school districts across the United States.

The Singapore approach introduces concepts first with hands-on manipulatives, then through the use of pictorial representation, culminating in a student’s ability to use algebraic expression. The concrete pictorial and abstract (CPA) learning progression is based on the work of famed psychologist, Jerome Bruner, who pioneered the use of active sensation and perception in childhood development.

“Launching the new Common Core Edition of Primary Mathematics is yet another milestone in our endeavor to make Singapore’s world-class curriculum materials available to teachers and parents in North America,” says Jeffery Thomas, President of Singapore Math Inc.® “Our collaboration with Marshall Cavendish Education has resulted in materials that are true to the original elementary mathematics program that catapulted Singapore onto the world scene in 1997. During the past 16 years, student scores have improved and teacher confidence has risen, wherever this approach has been adopted and implemented successfully.”

Printed materials for grades K-5 include textbooks, workbooks, Teacher’s Guides, and supplementary titles. Get more information by visiting singaporemath.com or emailing school@singaporemath.com.
