Minority Student from the OSU Moritz College of Law

OSU Scholarship Release FINAL 06-11-12Columbus, Ohio – Recognized as a leader with strong potential to succeed in the legal profession and community, Keeran Rajasekaran is a standout among his classmates. It is that potential that earned Rajasekaran -- a first-year law student at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law -- the inaugural, combined minority scholarship and internship awarded by the Columbus office of Squire Sanders.

The Squire Sanders Leadership Scholarship is designed to attract bright, talented students from diverse backgrounds who have demonstrated an aptitude and desire for leadership. The combined scholarship and internship is one method Squire Sanders is utilizing to attract, and ultimately retain, top minority talent to the firm.

Squire Sanders has committed $30,000 over three years to the Program on Law and Leadership at The Ohio State University. The program was established in the fall of 2007 as an umbrella for all activities related to leadership at the Moritz College of Law. It is another way in which Squire Sanders, as a founding member of the Columbus Managing Partners’ Diversity Initiative and the Minority Clerkship Program, is demonstrating its long-standing commitment to diversity.

As part of his scholarship, Rajasekaran will participate in an eight-week summer internship in Columbus with Squire Sanders. He, along with other summer associates, will receive training designed to begin building the practical skills necessary to succeed as a first-year associate and will have the opportunity to work on client matters spanning the firm’s practice areas.

“Throughout the interview process, Keeran stood out as an exceptional law student, driven to learn and succeed,” said Alex Shumate, Squire Sanders’ managing partner. “We look forward to working with him to help develop and apply his leadership skills and prepare him for a successful career in law.”

The scholarship is part of Moritz’s Leadership Scholarship initiative, which raised more than $600,000 from 12 of the largest law firms in Columbus. The initiative provides 60 students with scholarship opportunities in the coming years. Recipients are talented students from diverse backgrounds who possess inherent leadership and skills.

“It was an honor to be chosen by Squire Sanders as a scholarship recipient and to receive a summer internship opportunity,” said Rajasekaran. “Squire Sanders has global reach and an excellent reputation of working closely with clients. It’s a great place for me to begin my legal career. I look forward to receiving in-depth experience and applying those best practices to future classes and in my professional development.”

Rajasekaran is from Ellington, Connecticut and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut in 2007. He is interested in practicing tax and business law upon graduation.
