Paulig Group Press Release 12 December 2003 Free for publication Cholesterol-reducing ingredient Diminicol® to receive EU novel food authorisation The marketing of Diminicol® will be allowed in all EU countries The Finnish company Teriaka Ltd has received a favourable statement from the Standing Committee (on food chain and animal health) of the EU on 12 December 2003. It means that EU Commission will make a decision permitting the marketing of Diminicol® in all member countries. Diminicol® can be used in yoghurts, yellow fat spreads, soft cheese and milk-based fruit drinks. It has been clinically proven that Diminicol® significantly reduces cholesterol. This natural food ingredient contains plant sterols in a unique microcrystalline structure, making Diminicol® highly effective in lowering cholesterol. Patented in many countries Diminicol® has been patented both in the USA and in many other markets. It is marketed primarily to international food and beverage companies, which want to position themselves on the market for functional foods. In winter 2003 Diminicol® received GRAS status from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States. The FDA has also granted the right to use sterol heart health claim when marketing Diminicol.
