Compliance specialist joins Bowman’s environmental sector, focused on Marcellus and Utica Shale projects

PITTSBURGH, March 11, 2013 — Mitchel Strain has joined Bowman Consulting as a senior environmental project manager at the firm’s Pittsburgh office. He will be chiefly responsible for ensuring National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance is maintained across all planning stages of the firm’s multiuse civil works projects.

“The addition of Mitchel to our team was an important step in the expansion of our growing environmental engineering group,” said James Kodlick, director of environmental and cultural resource services, Bowman Consulting. “His intimate knowledge of environmental law and familiarity with regulatory processes will help us serve our clients by ultimately turning potential constraints into opportunities.”

Strain is a highly accomplished environmental professional with nearly 24 years’ experience providing strategic business planning, project management, business development, contract management, and regulatory expertise in a variety of environmental areas.

Prior to joining Bowman, Strain served as a senior environmental professional for several organizations, including 20 years in private environmental consulting practice, and most recently as a project manager and ecologist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Huntington, W.Va.

A Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), ARCPARC Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS) and Certified Professional Soil Classifier (CPSC), and Licensed Sub-Surface Sewage Disposal Designer, Strain holds a B.S. in geology from SUNY Cortland and an M.S. in soil science from the University of New Hampshire. He has completed Levels I–IV of Rosgen River Restoration training, and lives in Westerville, Ohio.

Bowman Consulting is a proud member of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, the Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association, and the Ohio Oil and Gas Association, promoting a safe environment for the exploration, production, and delivery of natural gas across the country.
