Healthcare Printer Improves Patient Safety from Admissions to the Point of Care

Brother Mobile Solutions, a leader in mobile and label printing technology, in partnership with PDC Healthcare, the global leader of innovative identification solutions, announced today it will showcase its new TrustSense™ Patient ID Printing Solution at the HIMSS 2014 Intelligent Hospital™ Pavilion from Feb. 24 to 27 in Orlando, FL. The TrustSense™ healthcare thermal printer TD-2130NHC provides on-demand wristband and label printing in virtually any area of the hospital.

The HIMSS Intelligent Hospital™ Pavilion is an educational simulated hospital that demonstrates advanced and integrated solutions in the patient care environment. The technologies displayed address many of the issues that can potentially impact patient care and safety.

As distractions, interruptions, and increase of workload are among the most common factors linked to identification and medication errors, the TrustSense™ healthcare printer is designed to help healthcare organizations address these challenges to improve patient outcomes and enhance clinical efficiency. The Brother TD-2130NHC healthcare thermal printer with TrustSense™ smart technology prints crisp and accurately imaged wristbands and labels using PDC Healthcare media at almost any point of care location – at a workstation from admissions to on a cart at the patient bedside. The printer’s wireless, mobile format enables clinicians to administer care directly where it is needed most – at the patient’s bedside, saving time and reducing the risk of disruptions that can potentially lead to manual errors. The superior accuracy and speed of the printer help reduce downtime and increase workflow efficiency, allowing caregivers to spend more time with their patients.

The new Brother printer uses TrustSense™ smart technology, which allows users to conveniently load and print both wristbands and labels without special set up or calibration, unlike standard thermal printers. Once loaded, the printer validates the PDC Healthcare “smart media” before printing. The TD-2130NHC has a compact footprint with the built-in LAN interface and prints accurate barcodes at 300 dpi quickly at 6ips. Optional Li-ion battery, WLAN, or Bluetooth interface and touch panel display are also available for extreme versatility.

Attendees of the HIMSS Intelligent Hospital™ Pavilion will have the opportunity to see the integration of the TrustSense™ Patient ID Printer Solution with other medical devices in live healthcare applications, including:

  • Quick Registration and Admission of Patients in Emergency Department
  • Printing Labels at Point of Care for Medication, Laboratory, Trauma,  and Surgery
  • Bedside Identification of Patients and Specimens
  • Printing Matching Mother and Infant Identification Wristbands in Labor & Delivery
  • Identification of Breast Milk in Labor & Delivery

“Brother’s new TrustSenseTM Patient ID Printer Solution is a smart and cost effective way for healthcare organizations to be more productive, while providing peace of mind to caregivers knowing they are identifying the correct patient and matching them to the right medication, specimen, or procedure,” said David Crist, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Brother Mobile Solutions.

Crist and Mark Neuenschwander, a leading expert in the field of medication dispensing automation and bar code point-of-care systems, will provide a joint presentation titled Getting the Rest of the Bar Code Camel into the Tent” on the importance of mobile printing solutions in Bar code Point of Care (BPOC).  Presentations will take place on Feb. 24 in the Leadership Theater at 1:15 p.m. and the Innovation Theater at 2:00 p.m. On Feb. 26, the presentation will be held in the Leadership Theater at 12:15 p.m.
