PDC Healthcare Launches the Endurasprint™ Thermal Printing Solution to Help High-Volume Pharmacies Save Money, Time and Improve Performance

PDC Healthcare, the global leader of innovative identification solutions, announced today the launch of the Endurasprint™ Thermal Printing Solution, specially developed for high-volume, retail, and central fill pharmacies, as well as distribution centers, that fill thousands of prescriptions daily.

The Endurasprint™ thermal printer uses direct thermal technology which is more efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly than laser printing, translating to operational savings. Endurasprint™ provides 44% faster throughput speed than laser to improve workflow efficiency at packaging workstations. Endurasprint™ provides a 27% lower cost per page than laser because it does not require toner cartridges that need continual replacement. The thermal printhead of Endurasprint™ lasts 10,000,000 linear inches (equal to 900,000 letter-size sheets) compared to a typical toner cartridge which lasts only 21,000 sheets. While laser toner is a class 2B carcinogen that requires special disposal, Endurasprint’s printhead may be recycled and meets EPA’s Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) guidelines.

Endurasprint™ is a turnkey printing solution that uses PCL printer language to integrate with legacy pharmacy software, which was a previous barrier, preventing pharmacies from converting to thermal document printing. The printer, manufactured by Datamax-O’Neil, accommodates up to nine-inch wide paper, including letter size, to allow easy conversion without document reformatting. Pharmacies can now print medication guides, invoices, and other documents to accompany prescriptions using the same thermal printing technology in which prescription labels are produced. PDC Healthcare’s direct thermal paper is engineered specifically for Endurasprint™ to provide optimized performance and one-touch calibration. The paper is also quality tested for 5-year image stability.

“Pharmacies can save about 30% annually by making the switch from laser to the Endurasprint™ thermal printing solution," said Cathy Russos, PDC Healthcare’s Endurasprint™ sales manager. “The money spent on replacing expensive toner cartridges and the downtime it takes to maintain high-volume laser printers makes thermal printing a smarter, more efficient choice.”
