The recently listed PEAB Industri AB will purchase environmentally certified hydroelectric power from Vattenfall to cover its entire electric power needs until 2011. The total contract involves 39 GWh during 2008.

Peab Industri has chosen Vattenfall’s environmentally certified VattenEl EPD as an addition to its electric power supply agreement up until 2011. As a result, in its environmental audit the company will be able to specify the exact environmental impact of its electricity consumption.

VattenEl EPD is hydroelectric power which is generated in accordance with the applicable environmental declaration under the EPD (Environmental Product Declarations) system. The origin of the electricity is specified with specific data on how it is generated and the impact of generation on the environment. The calculations are based on data from life cycle analyses. Life cycle analyses record all resource utilisation and all emissions during the entire product life cycle. Customers can obtain information concerning emissions of sulphur oxides, dust and carbon dioxides from electricity generation.

“We have chosen environmentally certified electricity from Vattenfall to visibly demonstrate that we are taking action to reduce the negative environmental impact of our activities. As a leading supplier of products and services for the construction and civil engineering market it is crucial for us to contribute to sustainable development in society,” says Mats O Paulsson, CEO of Peab Industri.

“It is always a matter for satisfaction when our customers renew their trust in us. We at Vattenfall carry a heavy responsibility in environmental issues, in particular in the fight against climate change. We also want to help our customers to show their concern for the environment through specific action, for example through the sale of environmentally certified hydroelectric power and collaboration on energy efficiency enhancement. We will also be intensifying collaboration with our customers in climate questions,” says Göran Hindemark of Vattenfall Marketing Nordic Region.
