Pelagicore takes a seat in the Board of Directors of the GENIVI Alliance
Fast-growing Pelagicore AB has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the GENIVI Alliance. Founded in 2009, GENIVI has over 180 active companies including 12 leading car manufacturers that represent approximately 50% of global car sales. GENIVI is the key driving force behind the adoption of Linux based systems into automotive IVI systems.
“We are very proud to be appointed to the Board of Directors for GENIVI, and the recognition this means for our products and our contribution to the Alliance. Pelagicore has been an active member of GENIVI since its formation in 2009. We strongly believe in the opportunity it represents for the automotive industry to provide connected In-Vehicle Infotainment systems with fantastic user experience,” says Alwin Bakkenes, CEO of Pelagicore.
The In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) industry is growing at an exceptional rate and, according to In-Stat Research, over 35 million IVI systems are expected to be delivered in 2015, as automotive manufacturers seek competitive advantages. Car buyers today demand the same level of accessibility and user content in their vehicles as they find in their mobile phones, tablets, and so on. To address this, most car manufacturers and suppliers look towards open platforms, such as Linux, which have large developer eco-systems and share foundations with many consumer electronics platforms.
The Linux operating system and related Open Source projects provide an excellent base for current and future IVI systems. There is a large and vibrant eco-system of developers and suppliers and many mobile platforms are based on Linux’s model, which brings fast access to many consumer electronics features and attributes. Pelagicore is a strong supporter of Linux based IVI systems and provides key products and services to enable the deployment of modern IVI systems with high-fidelity user experiences including cloud-based content and apps whilst ensuring integration into the automotive domain.
The GENIVI Alliance and its member companies co-operate to secure the wide availability of an Automotive Grade Linux based IVI platform. GENIVI aims to standardize non-differentiating parts of an IVI system through requirements and reference implementations. To achieve this, the GENIVI Alliance works with compliance programs and hosts multiple open source projects that enable the time and cost efficient deployment of IVI Platforms with high-quality and feature contents.
“We welcome Pelagicore to the Board of Directors of the GENIVI Alliance. From GENIVI’s beginning in 2009, Pelagicore has consistently demonstrated significant contributions to the GENIVI Alliance strategy of promoting Open Source software and Linux in automotive infotainment systems and of changing the business model for the infotainment industry. We look forward to continued strong contributions from Pelagicore on the Board of Directors,” says Steve Crumb, Executive Director of the GENIVI Alliance.
