FundedByMe re-launches service to help small businesses during the Corona crisis*

FundedByMe launched in 2010 with the ambition to help and connect small businesses with committed individuals, for them to support each other financially through donations or investments. Projects like Flippin Burgers saw the light of day after closing a successful crowdfunding campaign on FundedByMe, where they managed to engage over 150 fans early on with donations of SEK 150 and up. It became the starting point for the "Scandinavian Hamburger Trend" and the first step in putting Flippin Burgers on the culinary world map. Or the game Mutant Year Zero received 1034 percent of requested funds from its fans, who in turn were rewarded with pre-purchasing upcoming games.

In the suites of the financial crisis following the Coronavirus, many people and companies have turned to FundedByMe for support, advice, and assistance. The Board of Directors and the principal owners quickly came to the decision to re-launch the function for so-called “donation-based crowdfunding”. Arno Smit, founder, and Head of Product is working tirelessly on launching the product, which will be launched as soon as possible. In the meantime, companies interested in applying for support and individuals who want to support can register their interest on the following link:

“In our DNA lies the drive to really help companies and has always been one of our main pillars. This emergency situation that hit the world because of the coronavirus shutdown, has motivated us to try to help as best we can. This product is optimal for companies who are not yet ready to use equity crowdfunding, but where the commitment from their own networks is high and where their ambition can take the company to the next level. Our hope is that companies will be able to use this product and get help, and that individuals who want to help but don’t know how can find an outlet where they can support their locals and neighborhoods,” says Daniel Daboczy, CEO FundedByMe.

Donation-based crowdfunding differs from FundedByMe's current core product “equity crowdfunding” in that committed fans, customers, or other individuals can support their local businesses in exchange for upcoming products, goods, services, visibility, etc. FundedByMe has previously helped over 1000 projects and companies raise capital through this method. The Swedish Tax Agency has developed very clear guidelines regarding VAT and taxes for this type of crowdfunding in Sweden. The service is open globally but is primarily aimed at Swedish companies.
