Perbio continues to strengthen its supply of raw serum by acquisition in Australia Perbio Science AB has acquired, the Australian fetal bovine serum (FBS) business previously owned by Selborne Biological Services (Australia) Pty Ltd. This acquisition provides access to a further supply of FBS and is part of Perbio's strategy to diversify its geographical sources of raw material while increasing its raw material supply to support the Cell Cultures Divisions' important FBS business. Perbio is now vertically integrated in FBS in the USA, New Zealand and Australia. Australia has the world's second largest supply of high-quality FBS. The country's isolation provides the ideal region for controlling animal diseases and it is free from BSE (mad cow disease). FBS is an important supplement for cell culture media that is used to cultivate animal cells in vitro for the production of vaccines and biotechnology-based protein drugs. "We are pleased that this acquisition gives us access to Australian raw material for serum production", says Mats Fischier, CEO of Perbio Science. The purchase price for the acquisition has not been disclosed.
