STAGE SET FOR DOMINICA’S 15th ANNUAL WORLD CREOLE MUSIC FESTIVAL
Eastern Caribbean Island To Become Global Center of Creole Music
“Three Nights of Pulsating Rhythms” Scheduled for Oct. 28-30
Roseau, Dominica – (September 2011) – The stars are aligned for Dominica’s15th annual World Creole Music Festival as thousands of music fans from around the world prepare to celebrate the music, dialect and culture known as Creole.
Known for attracting world-renowned musicians from the Creole-speaking world, the highly anticipated annual festival is planned for Oct. 28-30 at Windsor Park Stadium
in the capital city of Roseau.
With the theme “Three Nights of Pulsating Rhythms,” the 2011 lineup includes performers from England, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Paris and Dominica.
“This year’s event is the 15th edition, so we wanted to combine the best local musical talent with those who have made a name on the world stage,” said Colin
Piper, director of tourism for Dominica. “The depth and breadth of the performers are historic. You will not want to miss the 15th staging of Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival. Attendees will get to experience both Jamaican Creole (which features largely English words superimposed on West African grammar) and Haitian Creole (which features
a French vocabulary superimposed on West African grammar.)
Headliners include Jeff Joseph of Grammacks fame performing his Cadence hits from his catalogue covering 40 years; Jean Philippe Marthely and Jocelyn Beroard singing zouk hits from their solo careers as well as hits from their Kassav repertoire; and new generation Haitian compas stars Carimi. Reggae headliners include the 10-time Grammy-nominated Third World, English-born Jamaican reggae singer, Gyptian; and Ali Campbell, the legendary voice of the British reggae band, UB40.
The festival will showcase a range of different music styles popular in the Creole-speaking world, such as indigenous styles from East and West Africa intertwined with rhythms of the Caribbean, including zouk, compas, reggae, soca and calypso.

The World Creole Music Festival was created in 1997 and is produced by the
Dominica Festivals Committee, a public sector body under the aegis of the
Discover Dominica Authority. The festival brings together leading exponents of
all the sub-genres of Creole Music including cadence-lypso and bouyon from
