• New average speed camera system goes live today between Canning Town and the Goresbrook Interchange • RoadPilot has already surveyed the site and added it to its GPS database • Consumers can download a free trial of RoadPilot Mobile, a smartphone-based speed camera locator application RoadPilot Ltd is warning motorists to take extra care when driving into London via the A13 from today, following the introduction of a sophisticated new average speed camera network. But the good news for cash-strapped motorists is that, despite only having gone live this morning (31 January), the new site has already been added to RoadPilot’s GPS database of speed camera locations, which is available to consumers via the company’s self-built mobile phone application, RoadPilot Mobile. The new average speed monitoring system, consisting of 84 cameras at 37 locations, enforces the speed limit between Canning Town and the Goresbrook Interchange. It is far more sophisticated than previous speed camera systems in that it can monitor a vehicle’s speed across an entire network of roads, including all entry and exit points, rather than just between two cameras. James Flynn OBE, CEO of RoadPilot, comments: “This new system marks a significant step in speed monitoring, as it means that motorists must scrutinise their speed across a far bigger area. “The technology also opens up further possibilities for greater speed enforcement. If this system proves successful, it could be extended or rolled out to other locations, all of which can be linked together. Taken to the extreme, the entire UK road network could, in theory, be linked up under one average speed monitoring system – meaning Big Brother could always be watching you!” Motorists looking to stay on the right side of the law can download the RoadPilot Mobile application, which is currently available on a free trial basis. The app is compatible with the full range of Nokia smartphones, including the N8, and also on all current Blackberry devices. Availability on a host of other platforms, including Apple’s iPhone, will be announced soon. RoadPilot Mobile can be downloaded now from the Nokia Ovi store (http://store.ovi.com/) or Blackberry App World (http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/appworld/).
