PharmNovo reports broader therapeutic potential for PN6047
PharmNovo AB announces today new preclinical findings supporting the potential of PN6047 in migraine and opioid withdrawal syndrome. The findings were generated through the company's NIDA-funded collaboration with researchers at Washington University School of Medicine.
PharmNovo is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company focused on developing safe and effective drugs for neuropathic pain, an area with significant unmet medical need. The company’s lead candidate, PN6047, is a potential first-in-class DORA (Delta Opioid Receptor Agonist) and represents a safer, non-addictive treatment for neuropathic pain.
The company's National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)-funded collaboration with Professor Amynah Pradhan and her research team at Washington University School of Medicine has generated new data demonstrating the therapeutic potential of PN6047 across multiple neurological indications. The results demonstrated efficacy in several established models of migraine and headache disorders, including migraine aura, post-traumatic headache and medication overuse headache, while also supporting a favourable safety profile.
These findings further strengthen the scientific rationale for developing PN6047 beyond neuropathic pain and support its potential use in migraine and other conditions in which headache is a significant clinical burden.
The new data also demonstrate additional confidence in the potential of PN6047 in opioid withdrawal syndrome, where headache is a common and debilitating symptom. Together, these findings broaden the therapeutic opportunities for PN6047 and reinforce its unique pharmacological profile.
"These findings provide further support for the unique pharmacological profile of PN6047 and strengthen the scientific rationale for evaluating the candidate across additional indications. While our primary focus remains the ongoing clinical development programme in neuropathic pain, the new data contribute valuable insights into the broader therapeutic potential of PN6047," says Per von Mentzer, CEO of PharmNovo AB.
The results have been described in a scientific manuscript that has recently been submitted for publication. A pre-peer-review version of the article is available here: https://www.biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2026.06.09.729278v1

PharmNovo AB is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company focused on developing safe and effective drugs for neuropathic pain. In this area, there is currently a lack of efficacious and safe treatments. The company has developed a portfolio of novel compounds based on a new generation of selective delta opioid receptor agonists (DORAs), intended to provide effective neuropathic pain relief without the adverse side effects of conventional opioids. The company’s lead candidate, PN6047 has been shown to effectively reduce neuropathic pain in preclinical studies. In addition to the Phase IIa PoC study in neuropathic pain currently being prepared, PharmNovo is planning for Phase IIa PoC studies with the lead candidate across several additional indications such as OWS (opioid withdrawal syndrome), OUD (opioid use disorder), migraine, and chronic cough. PN6047 has the potential to address challenges associated with opioid use and withdrawal.
