OXFORD FELLOW'S ESTATE GOES UNDER THE HAMMER Oxford, 5 September 2001 More than 300 pieces of furniture belonging to the estate of the late Mr Brian Miller and valued in excess of £50,000 will be sold at Phillips Oxford on 25 September 2001. The reclusive Oxford Fellow of Brasenose College was a keen collector of pieces from the 'Aesthetic movement', which took place from the mid to late 19th century. Purchasing from salerooms in and around Oxford, Mr Miller amassed his collection over many years. Sale co-ordinator Michael Mayow comments: "This is an unusual collection, both in its size, and also in that all pieces represent one particular movement. Mr Miller was indeed a keen collector and a great fan of this particular style. "Aesthetic movement designers found their inspiration in art and design originating in the Far East. Black ebonised finishes and Chinese and Japanese lines feature very strongly throughout the collection." Designs after E. Goodwin and William Morris will feature, including an E.W. Goodwin chair estimated at £1,000. (1/2) The collection can be previewed at Phillips Oxford's saleroom on Saturday 22 September from 9-12pm and Monday 24 September from 9-5pm. The sale will take place at 11am on Tuesday 25 September. Ends Notes to Editors: A brief biography of Mr Miller is available on request.
