This Veterans Day, Pilot Flying J honors US armed forces with donation to Wreaths Across America
Largest operator of travel centers in North America pledges portion of all November 11 PhilMor coffee refill proceeds
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 10, 2015) – To recognize and support the sacrifices made by the servicemen and women in the U.S. armed forces, Pilot Flying J will donate a portion of its proceeds, up to $25,000, from the sale of all PhilMor coffee refills on Veterans Day to Wreaths Across America that will go towards the purchase of wreaths for National Wreaths Across America Day, Dec. 12.
Known for instilling the importance of remembering our fallen heroes, honoring those who serve, and teaching children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms, Wreaths Across America coordinates veteran services and recognitions through a variety of programs.
Its mission is to Remember, Honor, Teach, and is carried out in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states. Wreaths Across America also organizes a week of events including international veteran’s tributes, ceremonies at State Houses and a week-long “Veteran’s Parade” between Maine and Virginia stopping along the way to spread the message. This week of events is made possible by thousands of volunteers who organize local ceremonies, raise funds to sponsor wreaths and participate in the events. The cost of its programs is paid by individual wreaths sponsors, corporate donors and volunteer professional truck drivers.
“For Pilot Flying J, it’s both an honor and a responsibility to support the men and women of the U.S. armed forces for the sacrifices they’ve made and the hardships they’ve endured,” said Jim Haslam, Pilot Flying J founder and chairman. “As commuters, travelers and professional drivers look to kick start their journeys with a fresh cup of coffee this Veterans Day, they’ll be supporting a tremendous cause in the process.”
PhilMor travel coffee mugs come in 20 and 24 ounce sizes and fuel smart savings every time they are refilled. Once in-store, consumers can choose from up to seven different blends of coffee at one time, as well as a wide selection of creamers, toppings and syrups.
"We are so proud to partner with Pilot Flying J once again, because they really understand the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families, and the Wreaths Across America mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach," said Karen Worcester, the executive director of Wreaths Across America.
“As a Pilot Flying J team member of more than 20 years, I’m extremely proud of the company for carrying on the tradition of supporting the U.S. armed forces,” said David Parmly, Army veteran and Pilot Flying J employee services manager. “The essence of our military is to serve, and it’s critical that we collectively make continued efforts to return this service and support them – on Veterans Day and beyond.”
