The return of the PinkNews Awards for its 10th anniversary on Wednesday 18th October brings the UK’s biggest and brightest LGBTQ+ icons and most influential change-makers, groundbreakers and scene-shakers. This year’s Awards, hosted at a prestigious London venue, sponsored by Lloyds Banking Group and presenting partner We are 8, will bring a dash of glitter to the capital’s social calendar.

Rylan has been confirmed as the evening’s Host. Starting his career as a breakthrough on The X Factor and winning Celebrity Big Brother shortly after, Rylan is a national treasure. From hosting Eurovision semi-finals, his own weekly Radio 2 show, appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his iconic mother Linda, Rylan is one of the UK’s most sought-after broadcasters.

Rylan will be presenting Awards in the following categories honouring outstanding achievement for LGBTQ+ society:

  • Screen Moment of the Year
  • Social Media Moment of the Year 
  • Sports Personality of the Year (sponsored by Sky Sports)
  • The Good News Award (sponsored by We are 8) 
  • The Travel and Hospitality Award 


Self Nomination Categories: 

  • Business Trailblazer of the Year (sponsored by Royal Bank of Canada) 

  • Brand Ally of the Year

  • Community/Charity Organisation of the Year (sponsored by Lloyds Banking Group)

  • Diversity Network of the Year

  • Inclusive Tech Innovation of the Year

Nominees have been shortlisted for the Self Nomination categories and for the public to vote categories for their favourite LGBTQ+ icons. The nominees for this year include Dylan Mulvaney, Ncuti Gatwa, Alex Scott, Megan Rapinoe, Sam Smith, Virgin Atlantic, Just Eat, Tesco, Wickes and Vodaphone. The full list of nominees can be viewed on the PinkNews Awards website.

2023 is a big year for the British LGBTQ+ community, with three anniversaries set to be marked on the night. As well as celebrating the tenth edition of the Awards, PinkNews will be joined by key figures to mark ten years of Royal Assent for the legalisation of same-sex marriage, and the 20th anniversary of the repeal of Section 28, a series of laws which prohibited the promotion of homosexuality in the UK.

On hosting the PinkNews Awards this year, Rylan said: “What a year it’s been for the LGBTQ+ community. From the challenges we’ve faced, to the increased visibility we’ve seen on our screens, these awards are all about celebrating the people and companies that are making a difference. This year’s PinkNews Awards will welcome an array of Britain’s best and brightest public figures and celebrities to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the important work done by PinkNews and the wider LGBTQ+ community to drive change. Previous attendees have included Dannii Minogue, Laverne Cox, Nigella Lawson, Lorraine, Russell T Davies, Theresa May, Kier Starmer and Sadiq Khan.
