The PinkNews Awards are hitting London on Wednesday October 18th. This year’s Awards, sponsored by Lloyds Banking Group, will bring a dash of glitter to the capital’s social calendar.

Honouring outstanding achievement across various sectors including business, politics, community, and entertainment, PinkNews will be rolling out the pink carpet for groundbreakers and scene-shakers who are moving society forward.

2023 is a big year for the British LGBTQ+ community, with three anniversaries set to be marked on the night. As well as celebrating the tenth edition of the Awards, we will be joined by key figures to mark ten years since the Royal Assent for the legalisation of same-sex marriage, and the 20th anniversary of the repeal of Section 28, a series of laws which prohibited the promotion of homosexuality in the UK.

The PinkNews Awards will be an opportunity to celebrate these milestones, recognise contemporary queer culture, and look ahead to the future of LGBTQ+ rights and the vital work still remaining to ensure the rights and liberties for all.

PinkNews is joined by Stonewall as Charity Partner for this year’s Awards, with opportunities on the night for guests to support the vital work Stonewall does to support the LGBTQ+ community.

Robbie de Santos, Director of External Affairs at Stonewall, said “We’re delighted to be the PinkNews Awards Charity Partner for 2023. Stonewall will be marking the 20 years since the repeal of Section 28. The PinkNews Awards on October 18th is a great opportunity to celebrate momentous progress that has been made for LGBTQ+ equality and to show how we can still continue to fight for a world where everyone is free to be their authentic, joyous selves.”

Self-nomination entries are now open, and the PinkNews Awards judges are on the hunt for LGBTQ+ community icons, allies and change makers who have made significant contributions to LGBTQ+ inclusion in the past year.

The categories include Business Trailblazer of the Year, Brand Ally of the Year, Diversity Network of the Year, Charity/Community Group of the Year and Inclusive Tech Innovation of the Year. Entries are open now and free to enter, with a deadline of August 22nd. Entries can be made here: https://awards.thepinknews.com/2023/en/page/categories

The Awards will be judged by leaders in LGBTQ+ inclusion including:

  • Char Bailey, Director of People at Birmingham Pride
  • Marty Davies, CEO of Outvertising
  • Michael Brown, Managing Partner of UM Worldwide
  • Bobbi Pickard CEO of Trans in the City
  • Lee Mabey, Managing Partner of Red Star (Dentsu X)
  • Alice Beverton-Palmer, Head of Brand at PinkNews

Public vote categories will go live in the coming weeks, with the public invited to vote for their favourite Sport Personalities, Entertainers, Drag Artists, and Social Media moments from the past year.

This year’s PinkNews Awards will welcome a dazzling array of Britain’s best and brightest politicians, public figures, and celebrities to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the important work done by PinkNews and the wider LGBTQ+ community to drive change. Previous political speakers and attendees have included Tony Blair, Theresa May, Nancy Pelosi, Keir Starmer, Sadiq Khan and James Cleverly. They have been joined by celebrities including Dannii Minogue, Laverne Cox, Nigella Lawson, Lorraine, and Russell T Davies.
