PLAGAZI JOINS LEADING PROJECT FOR CARBON CAPTURE & STORAGE MANAGEMENT IN STOCKHOLM NORVIK HARBOUR
Plagazi has joined as a key project partner in "Project NICE" (Norvik Infrastructure CCS East Sweden), a project involving the establishment of a carbon capture hub in Stockholm Norvik Harbour with other leading players in the carbon capture and storage ("CCS") sector. The aim of the project is to work towards set environmental goals by establishing a leading carbon infrastructure to increase opportunities for emission reduction and carbon transport and management.
Plagazi participated in a comprehensive feasibility study organised by the communal port operator Stockholms Hamnar in collaboration with Stockholm Exergi, Mälarenergi, Söderenergi, Vattenfall, Heidelberg Materials, and Nordkalk. The work is now being continued in an in-depth feasibility study with the aim of establishing a proposal for a system solution that includes risk analyses, business models, permit issues, and more.
Plagazi's involvement in this work primarily concerns the facilitation of the annual management of up to 150,000 tonnes of captured carbon dioxide from Köping Hydrogen Park, Plagazi's flagship project, which is being developed together with Köping Municipality. In addition, Plagazi's involvement in the project is pioneering the CCS market as Köping Hydrogen Park will be one of the first CCS projects in Sweden.
The scheme will enable the entry of additional project partners to further contribute to the cost-effectiveness and emissions reduction and the potential to achieve negative emission levels. It will also inspire further regional cooperation on carbon infrastructure. The transport solution aims to provide carbon management and transport of the equivalent of 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
"Participating in the development of Project NICE is an extremely promising step in the right direction for Plagazi. The project has the potential to transport and store all produced carbon dioxide from the Köping Hydrogen Park, up to 150,000 tonnes annually, which enables huge emission reductions for the municipality of Köping. That so many other leading players in the CCS field are involved in this collaboration is highly motivating and indicates that the potential behind Project NICE is enormous." - Torsten Granberg, CEO Plagazi AB (publ)
