Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida is Raising Funds by Recycling with Planet Green
For many more adults and children in the United States, going hungry is a painful reality. Many have to choose between paying bills or feeding their family.
In Southwest Florida, the Harry Chapin Food Bank has been working to end hunger since 1983. In fact, they are the only food bank in Southwest Florida (Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and the Glades counties). With a struggling economy, more than ever, people have been in need of assistance. According to the New York Times, Lee County has been cited as the hardest hit of any U.S. county by the current housing/mortgage crisis. The Harry Chapin Food Bank provides millions of pounds of food to over 150 partner agencies and food pantries including churches, after-school programs, day care centers, soup kitchens and more.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank has been recycling to help raise funds to support their efforts with Planet Green Recycle since 2010. Preserving the environment is important to the team at Harry Chapin and a recycle fundraising program with Planet Green is the perfect fit. They have the ability to raise funds while saving the planet. With the option to donate items that are no longer of use allows for more people to participate and support their efforts.
During a recent Q&A session with Planet Green, Associate Director of Harry Chapin Food Bank, Joyce Jacobs explained, "We appreciate how easy it is to participate, but that we can turn empty cartridges into cash. I think each time I send in a box we receive around $60.00. This enables us to distribute over $360.00 in food to families."
