“Creating beautiful smiles is a great gift we can give to patients”

Dr Narimen Djerbi followed her childhood fascination with the human smile and went on to study dentistry to become an orthodontist. Now, she is creating beautiful smiles for others in an elegant dental clinic in Tunis.

Orthodontist Dr Narimen Djerbi has been fascinated with people’s smiles ever since she was a little girl.

“That was always the first thing I paid attention to whenever I met new people – their teeth and their smile,” she says.

Having a beautiful smile herself, she was also used to receiving compliments about it.

“So I thought, why not help others achieve a nice smile, too. That is the reason why I became an orthodontist in the first place – this job enables me to create beautiful smiles for others. It’s a great gift that we can give to a patient.”

A VIP room to make patients feel special

Dr Djerbi studied dentistry at the University of Monastir in Tunisia and then went on to specialise in orthodontics at the University of Lille in France, continuing with lingual orthodontics at the University of Paris V. After finishing her studies, she returned to Tunisia, where she has been working as an orthodontist for 10 years now.

Dr Djerbi’s clinic is located in the Centre Urbain Nord district in Tunis, where she works with four dental assistants and two medical secretaries.

“I have created this whole design concept for the clinic, where I have a ‘Silver room’ and a ‘Golden room’. The latter looks a bit like a VIP room with only gold, black and white used in the decor, and a Planmeca Compact™ i Classic dental unit with Metallic Gold upholstery. The Silver room has silver upholstery and neutral colours, and I think it’s quite classy. My patients, who are mostly adults, always prefer the Golden room though.”

Dr Djerbi is a big fan of the design of Planmeca dental units.

“I have two Planmeca dental units. They are very light and elegant and don’t take up a lot of space. They hardly make any noise at all when you change chair positions, and the upright sitting position is an important feature. The Ultra Relax™ upholstery helps patients feel comfortable, and they often mention it, too. As a user, I feel very comfortable, and the touchscreen interface is simply ideal for me. All in all, I think the design reflects my personality very well.”

The right equipment distributor can make all the difference

Dr Djerbi first discovered Planmeca’s solutions through the company’s Tunisian distributor Mr. Hatem Tanazefti from Al Hayat Group. She was attending a congress and noticed Mr Tanazefti who was showcasing a Planmeca dental unit there. The product’s design and lightness caught her attention, and so did Mr Tanazefti’s youth and energy, and she decided to approach him.

“He has been a great contact person. He visits our clinic often just to check that everything works as it should and if something needs to be repaired. The technicians show up on time, they listen to us and make sure that all spare parts are immediately available. Communication is very important, and with Planmeca’s distributor it has been exceptional. I’m very happy that Planmeca’s products are available for us in Tunisia − great products through a great distributor. If I had to set up a new clinic, I know I would choose Planmeca again.”

Orthodontics is easier with the right tools

With aesthetic dentistry on the rise, Dr Djerbi says that patients are very demanding when it comes to detail and precision. They want to be involved in the process and see their photos and treatment progress.

“They specifically ask for digital smile designing and request to see their progress photos and all the aesthetic details. They know what they want and often have very specific requests – for example, they might ask for a smile with protruding canines or shorter central incisors, which I find quite impressive.”

The clinician’s job, according to Dr Djerbi, is to listen, to have the necessary tools for visualising and performing the treatment, and to be transparent when it comes to the expected end-result.

“Orthodontics is an evolving profession that is becoming simpler by the day, thanks to digitalisation,” she continues. “We only need to acquire the latest tools to be able to provide the best services to our patients and achieve the best results.”
