Implanting a new workflow
You may not know this interesting dental fact, but the most debilitating oral disorder in the world is edentulism - the state of being partially or without teeth*. Furthermore, 178 million people in the U.S. are missing at least one tooth, and more than 35 million Americans do not have any teeth**! These numbers are projected to grow in the next two decades and point out a growing need for dental implants. Its likely a large percentage of these Americans are seeking to replace lost teeth and to help them dentists require tools to improve implant placement outcome. A surgical Implant guide is a tool to help meet this goal.
The next step
Presently, there are several companies that are addressing this growing need to improve implant workflow including Planmeca. The Planmeca Romexis® Implant Guide module utilizes a 3D volume, STL data file and an implant plan to layout, design and create a single-piece surgical guide in-house, or to be sent out to a lab for manufacture.
This new implant workflow module is one of the latest in a series of software and equipment advancements launched by Planmeca this year. The implant workflow module streamlines the process and helps reduce potential errors. Meaning, that by utilizing Planmeca Romexis software, and 3D imaging, a clinician can ensure that treatments are carried out according to plan.
How the implant guide works
Through Planmeca Romexis, automatically marks the undercuts so the guide can be designed for the optimal fit. It visualizes the drilling depth distance from sleeve top to implant apical tip to assist in the implant procedure. This new implant workflow solution allows easy customization as the user defines how they want their guides to be: small, large, snap fit or loose fit. It can significantly lower cost if it is printed in-house, eliminating export fees. Lastly, it allows aesthetic-driven implant planning for unique situations.
A surgical implant guide will help a clinician to place an implant correctly. If a patient sees that everything has been planned well and has a precision look it will help them feel more comfortable prior to implant surgery.
The implant workflow solution will provide a big benefit to clinicians and their patients as the projected need for tooth replacements increases. This latest upgrade will allow clinicians to prepare for an increasing need to help maximize patient care, improve clinician workflow and get more out of a 3D imaging system and Planmeca Romexis® software.
