As Finland continues to celebrate 100 years of independence, Planmeca continues to spread the word on Finnish innovation around the world. In Belgrade, Planmeca recently honoured both Finnish technological expertise as well as Serbian dental professionals with a dentistry seminar in conjunction with the Finland 100 centenary year.

While Finland celebrates the centennial of its independence, Planmeca continues to actively participate in the centenary activities all over the world. As part of the festivities, Planmeca teamed up with the Serbian dental supply company Plast-DENT in March to organise a seminar on digital solutions in dentistry in the capital city of Serbia.

Hosted at the Embassy of Finland in Belgrade, more than 60 Serbian dental professionals and other guests were on hand at the seminar to hear about the advantages of digital dentistry and to familiarise themselves with Planmeca’s advanced Finnish technology.

The seminar opened with a speech by the Finnish Ambassador to Serbia Pertti Ikonen. The Ambassador spoke among other things of the significance of international cooperation especially in the field of health care technology, and emphasised Planmeca’s role in this cooperation as a world leader in dental technology.

Next, Planmeca’s Vice President of Sales Jouko Nykänen presented the company’s wide range of digital dentistry solutions as well as the pioneering digital workflow concept, built around the powerful Planmeca Romexis® all-in-one software.

Nykänen reaffirmed Planmeca’s strong commitment to R&D and underscored the importance of collaboration with health care professionals and universities to innovative technology and product development. Moreover, he praised the company’s ground-breaking new products, such as the Planmeca Viso™ X-ray unit and its unique patient positioning, free FOV adjustments and intelligent patient movement correction.

Then, Dr. Dennis Rottke presented on the benefits of 3D imaging in diagnostics using actual clinical cases. The seminar concluded with a hands-on CAD/CAM session for dentists using Planmeca’s new intraoral scanner Planmeca Emerald™. Weighing in at just 183 grams, the extremely fast as well as phenomenally lightweight scanner was unveiled at IDS 2017 in March and also attracted a lot of attention among the Serbian dentists at the seminar.

The event coincided with the 14th Belgrade Dance Festival, where the prestigious Finnish dance group Tero Saarinen Company delivered their contemporary dance performance “Morphed” the day after the seminar. The performance marked the first time a Finnish dance artist participated in the Belgradian event, making another fitting contribution to the Finnish centennial.

After the performance, guests were treated to a cocktail reception hosted by the Finnish Ambassador, where Planmeca’s Nykänen reflected on the creativity and original thinking that go into both technological innovation and the art of dance.

The highly successful event brought together Serbian dental professionals and high-end Finnish technology. At the same time, it paid tribute to the Finnish centennial by highlighting the latest contributions of Finnish expertise to the advancement of dentistry worldwide.
