Planmeca is a philosophy
At his three radiological centres in Mexico, Dr Julián González is doing what he knows best – teaching diagnostic dental imaging – using a fleet of Planmeca imaging devices. It’s been a significant commitment to one manufacturer, but Dr González says it has never been about brand loyalty. For him, Planmeca is a philosophy.
Some people fall in love with making art. Others with car mechanics, film, linguistics, fine cuisine or professional sports. But Dr Julián González didn’t especially fall for any of these things. Instead, he found his professional calling in dental radiology.
“I chose dentistry because the science of health was always something that spoke to me. After I graduated, I began leaning towards radiology when I got the opportunity to work at an imaging centre. My destiny ended up being to buy the centre, so I bought it, and at the same time I started teaching radiology at the university,” he explains.
“But it was when I went to study a postgraduate programme in Peru that I really fell in love with radiology, the whole subject and the diagnostics. I saw an opportunity to grow both professionally and financially. I finished the postgraduate degree, returned to Mexico and dedicated myself exclusively to this, to diagnostic imaging. And here I am today.”
And where is Dr González today? He teaches diagnostic oral and maxillofacial imaging at his three RDO (Radiología y Diagnósticos Odontológicos) radiological centres in Pachuca, Querétaro and Tulancingo in Mexico. His teams serve on average some 60,000–70,000 patients annually, keeping the three centres busy all year round. “Nowadays, I no longer participate in the operational or administrative parts, but I teach and offer support when needed.”
“Planmeca has really made a difference”
Since 2012, Dr González’s imaging equipment has been all Planmeca, from CBCT and panoramic imaging to intraoral radiology. Today, this includes Planmeca ProMax® 3D and 2D units as well as the Planmeca ProX™ intraoral X-ray unit, with a brand-new Planmeca Viso® G5 on the way. All powered by Planmeca’s all-in-one Romexis® dental software.
“Planmeca has really made a difference in my practice,” Dr González says. “First, I want to talk about the machines, the hardware. Something that I like very much about Planmeca is that they are very stable, reliable machines.”
“I also really like the way you interact with the devices and the software, which I think is the main advantage. The image quality is good, very good, one of the best – I've always said it. But it's not just the image, it’s also the integration with the Romexis software.”
“Many times, clinicians have to resort to different software for different purposes. But I try to use other software as little as possible, and really 90% of my digital workflow happens in Romexis. And the ease with which I can make a diagnosis in Romexis and go to the integration area with the press of a button, very valuable.”
The highest standard of service
Although Dr González has invested a lot in his fleet of Planmeca imaging devices, he himself says he isn’t keen on brand loyalty and doesn’t choose his equipment on brand value. Instead, it is part of a greater vision in which he strives to maintain the highest standard of service at all three of his radiological centres in Mexico.
“I think having everything standardised is one of the things that has helped us grow and differentiate ourselves, and you can achieve that when you work with a brand. And when I work with a brand, it’s because I like the brand. I like how Planmeca is always looking for the next new thing to help their users in their work.”
Dr González says he has sometimes also made suggestions for improvement – and has been pleased to see the feedback turn into action in Planmeca R&D. “In my personal experience, they sit with you to listen to your needs, and then these needs are embodied in changes. That’s a valuable thing, at least to me.”
“Sometimes when you collaborate closely with a company, people think that we present information in a certain way because of the proximity, but I really do not choose companies. I don't choose a brand. I choose philosophies. That's why I’ve chosen Planmeca – it’s a philosophy, and one I like a lot.”
