Planmed Verity® utilized at the 2018 Ice Hockey World Championship in Denmark
Planmed provided its improved Planmed Verity® CBCT scanner to the 2018 Ice Hockey World Championship in Denmark. The scanner was part of the setup at the on-site emergency rooms both at Royal Arena in Copenhagen and Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning. Planmed Verity was used to diagnose fractures in extremities and the maxillofacial area as well as dental injuries throughout the tournament.
The Planmed Verity CBCT scanner helped the medical staff at the 2018 Ice Hockey World Championship to provide high-quality first aid treatments at a fast pace. It had previously been successfully used in this capacity at the 2012 World Championship in Finland and Sweden and received positive feedback for its performance at both tournaments.
“Planmed Verity helps medical staff to improve diagnostics and to plan treatments more efficiently,” says Dr. Markku Tuominen, a Medical Supervisor at the tournament in Denmark.
Dr. Tuominen has worked at Ice Hockey World Championships for years and seen the benefits of the Planmed Verity scanner first-hand in both 2012 and 2018.
“It is very important that teams know they have a high-quality CBCT imaging option readily available at the arena in case of injuries and emergencies,” Dr. Tuominen states. “When players and team staff members can rely on the result of a scan, it allows them to move forward with confidence.”

Planmed Verity was recently enhanced with improvements that have made the CBCT scanner even more versatile. The new Planmeca CALM™ movement correction algorithm helps cancel the effects of patient movement – preventing human errors and making imaging more predictable.
In turn, the Planmeca Ultra Low Dose™ imaging protocol has reduced the scanner’s already low patient doses by 50% without compromising image quality, which means that 3D images can now be obtained at a dose close to standard 2D imaging. In addition, Planmed Verity’s new head and neck imaging mode allows capturing even more precise images of the entire dental area.
