The Townies Come To Town!
Recently, we played host to a small, select number of dentists who are members of Dentaltown’s online forum. Referred to as “Townies” these dentists are highly engaged in the online message boards and are interested in new techniques and technologies to keep their practices at the forefront of dentistry. At Dentaltown events, Townies delve deeper into the companies they're visiting through seminars, presentations, hands-on tutorials and discussions about the research and development of new upcoming products and equipment. The Townies showcase their trip and experiences by sharing information with other members of DentalTown about the companies they've spent time with.
“These are the dentists who are passionate about their profession. They spend their free time on Dentaltown learning more about dentistry to become better and better at what they do,” said Ben Lund of Dentaltown and Farran Media. “Members of Dentaltown are cream-of-the-crop real-world practicing dentists who eat, sleep and breathe dentistry sharing their successes, asking questions and helping raise the tide of the dental profession.”
Planmeca USA president Brett Hines welcomed the Townies to our Roselle, Ill. headquarters, and our new Planmeca Digital Academy, with an overview of current Planmeca technology. Hines showed Townies the evolution of dental technology through the prism of Planmeca’s development. Beginning as a start-up company from Finland in 1971 that made dental stools, Planmeca evolved into a leading international dental technology company today.
Chicago dentist Louis Kaufman gave an in-depth presentation on how Planmeca technology has changed his practice. He shared with the Townies the positive effects on patients/staff, and what his return on investment has been with the Planmeca ProMax® he purchased five years ago.
“I netted a 548% increase from my investment of my Planmeca ProMax,” he told the Townies. His Planmeca ProMax allowed him to go from zero to 12 implant cases per month as well as increase panoramic imaging too. Additionally, Kaufman expressed that his ProMax has helped him build better working relations with specialists and referral sources.
Planmeca trainer Kim Pienkowski gave a detailed presentation on Planmeca Romexis® software, and Brett Garvin discussed radiation exposure and ultra-low dose technology. Product director Tetsuya Shimbuku gave the Townies a tour of the Planmeca Digital Academy showroom, focusing on Planmeca’s connected dental operatories featuring the Planmeca Sovereign® Classic dental unit and Planmeca Evolution™ connected cabinetry.
“We provide all dental solutions for the dental operatory, from imaging to dental furniture that integrates with your existing system,” Shimbuku said. He demonstrated how the Planmeca Sovereign® Classic Chair instantly recognized an existing handpiece and integrated it into the dental system, allowing the dentist to work immediately.
The Townies felt that their very first Planmeca visit was a valuable sharing experience as they received important information and relayed experiences from their own practices. Solutions were discussed, and eyes opened to the wealth of advanced technology and patient safety advances that Planmeca presented.
