Swedish startup, Plotagon, has been named a finalist for the Fast Company 2014 Innovation By Design Awards. Plotagon has been honored for its free iPad app, which enables anyone to make and share 3D animated videos instantly. Users simply select characters, choose a scene, write what they want their characters to say, and press “play” to see their stories animated.

Plotagon is featured in the October print and online issues of Fast Company magazine along with global brands such as Disney, Google, and Nike. Finalists were chosen based upon their “innovative and disruptive design solutions.” Winners will be selected October 15.

"We’re super excited to be a finalist in the Innovation By Design Awards,” said Jonathan Hise Kaldma, Creative Director at Plotagon. “Great design is about making complex things simple. With Plotagon, we’ve taken animation, which used to be really complicated, and created an app anyone can use to create their own animated stories.”

This is Plotagon’s second accolade for its first iPad app. When it launched worldwide in July, the Apple App Store featured Plotagon as one of its “Best New Apps” in over 100 countries. The free app comes with four characters, two scenes, music and sound effects. Users can download three more free characters within the app. Even more characters and scenes can be added via in-app purchases, most of which are $.99 or $1.99 each. Scenes and characters can be used in any combination.

In addition to the iPad version, Plotagon runs on Mac and PC. All versions operate the same way and are available through Plotagon.com. Users can share their animated stories on YouTube and within Plotagon’s built-in social network that allows people to find and follow other creators and post comments about animated videos. Users will be able to share videos to Facebook and Twitter soon as well.

Plotagon was started in 2011 and launched its first beta August 2013. It is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.
