ActivIdentity Smart Cards and USB Tokens Now Tightly Integrated with Pointsec’s Endpoint Encryption Software

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, October 30, 2006 – Pointsec, the global leader and the provider of the de facto standard for enterprise encryption software for laptop and desktop PCs, PDAs and smart¬phones, today announced that Pointsec for PC 6.0 now integrates with ActivIdentity™ Smart Card ID solutions, and with ActivIdentity ActivKey™, its USB token solution, providing customers with enhanced data security through combined endpoint encryption and strong, two-factor authentication.

“As workforces grow more mobile, the risk of exposing sensitive customer or business information from lost or stolen laptops has become a major concern for corporations and government agencies. By integrating our data encryption software with ActivIdentity two-factor authentication solutions, we are able to meet the growing demand for higher levels of protection against data breaches caused by lost, stolen or discarded laptop and desktop PCs,” said Peter Larsson, CEO, Pointsec. “Activ¬Identity is an industry leader in digital identity assurance solutions and we look forward to our continued collaboration in years to come.”

Pointsec has integrated its Pointsec for PC solution with ActivIdentity smart cards and USB tokens configured for use with ActivClient® middleware and ActivIdentity Applets. The complete data protection solution allows business and government customers to more thoroughly protect informa¬tion stored on laptops and PCs without the effort of a long and costly proprietary integration. Further, ActivClient software is leveraged by other security applications such as strong authentication for network login, virtual private networks (VPN), dial-up and web, as well as encryption and digital signatures for e-mails and documents.

“The demand for two-factor authentication solutions is growing as enterprises and governments become more aware of the need to provide stronger access control to corporate information and resources. Now our customers can combine strong authentication with full disk encryption to ensure the privacy and protection of personal and proprietary information stored on laptop and desktop computers,” said Marc Hudavert, Vice President of Sales and General Manager, ActivIdentity EMEA. “Pointsec is a leader in mobile data protection and the integrated solutions offer our joint customers another important layer of protection for their endpoint equipment.”

Pointsec’s software encrypts the entire disk of a notebook or desktop PC in real time and will only grant authenticated users access to the information. Full disk encryption protects the operating system and sensitive system files, ensuring that all security vulnerabilities are closed. Pointsec’s innovative access control architecture, the Multi-Factor Authentication Engine streamlines the addition and management of a second authentication factor, such as a USB token or smart card, for endpoint security by removing the burden of costly and inflexible proprietary integrations.
