New HI-GENIC mousepad from Speedlink features Polygiene ViralOff to provide hygienic protection for gamers

Speedlink, one of Europe’s leading PC and video game console accessories brands, has launched a new mousepad featuring antimicrobial technology from Swedish firm Polygiene®. The HI-GENIC mousepad is designed for private use at home as well as in lively offices and public spaces. It has a robust yet soft textile surface that is pleasant to use and suitable for all mouse sensors. The mousepad remains in place, even on smooth surfaces, thanks to a non-slip base.

To provide hygienic protection for the user, the mousepad is treated with Polygiene ViralOffTM a textile treatment that reduces microorganisms by over 99% on the material*.

The technology was introduced last year in response to the growing demand for antimicrobial solutions sparked by the pandemic. To develop the treatment, Polygiene returned to its roots – the company started in the healthcare sector in 2006 during the battle against SARS.

Polygiene ViralOff can be used to treat face masks, scrubs and other equipment used by medical staff, as well as for the public, where the functionality is relevant, such as in gloves and face masks, as well as bedsheets and even furniture in public spaces and mass transportation.

The range of applications is now extending into new areas such as e-sports and gaming.

Commenting on why Speedlink chose to partner with Polygiene, Thomas Weber, head of product development, says: “The ViralOff surface treatment for our new HI-GENIC mousepad turns a practical product into a very useful one.”

The production of Polygiene treatments all takes place within the Europe, and all the company’s technologies are Oeko-Tex® Eco Passport certified. Weber says this “made the decision for the cooperation easy for us.”

Polygiene VP Commercial Operations EMEA Haymo Strubel comments: "The current pandemic has raised public awareness of viruses and bacteria and greatly increased society's awareness of hygiene as a relevant issue. Polygiene offers the right solutions to many current challenges with its unique, sustainable products. We have closely been following the impressive development of e-sports on a broad international level and are very pleased to see the successful implementation of the first joint project with our partner Speedlink. Polygiene offers broad application possibilities on textiles but also on countless hard surfaces and we are looking forward to a number of new projects with Speedlink going forward."
